Root Bar — Restaurant in Chom Phon Subdistrict

Entrance: I love the idea of hidden bars and that’s exactly how the entrance is. Unlike being hidden inside restaurants, this bar’s entrance is a hidden door on the side of the sidewalk next to other businesses. You wait in a dark small elevator like partition before a door opens to the bar. Bar is very cozy, dark ambiance - like you’re underground with the tree roots. Candles and small lights illuminating the bar. Light music allows for the bar to be not loud at all. Perfect for talking comfortably without yelling but white noise enough to not hear other conversations. Restrooms are singular rooms, gender neutral. Short 3 minute walk from the MRT/BTS station.

Drinks: There is no menu, you simply say what drink you either have in mind (traditional or with a twist) or simply flavors you want (sweet, spicy, etc) I love new drinks so I went with the spicy and sour/salty drinks, a fruity sweet drink. They came at a timely manner and it was so fun getting to talk to the staff as they speak both thai and english. They explain your drink once they make it and I got to try so many new flavors I never knew existed. For those who enjoy not tasting alcohol (like me), this place is for you. For those who love the strong taste of alcohol (my bf), this place is also for you. They take your preferences seriously and aren’t afraid to ask some questions to make sure you’re okay with what they are making. We also got many complimentary shots, cheering with the staff and also being the last ones left, playing card games with them. It was the most memorable experience i’ve ever had.

Cost: since all drinks are made to you and use different amounts of different alcohols, there is not set price. But for reference, our drinks were around 400-480 baht. Most people we saw ordered 1-2 rounds. We wanted the full experience so we had a total of 6 cocktails (3 per person) so the bill was just under 3000 baht. With all of the thought, effort, fun, amount, and taste, this price was very affordable. (To be honest we were gonna order a fourth round of drinks since we weren’t really tipsy but after the card games and plentiful shots, i was incredibly tipsy and super happy haha, definitely decided against a fourth round after that.

Service: The staff are both professional and very welcoming. So easy to talk to and very funny. I highly recommend this place for foreigners, tourists, and locals.

⭐ First Visit — Very Impressed • Found this bar while looking for cool hidden spots around Saphan Khwai–Chatuchak–Ladprao • The storefront was unique — mysterious and charming ✨ • Went with 3 people and sat at the bar counter • No menu — the bartender asked about our mood/flavor preferences and made drinks to match 🍸

Experience: • We each ordered 4 drinks — all delicious, well-balanced, and creative • There were also special drinks and little interactive moments that added to the vibe • My friend loved it so much they immediately said, “We have to come back!”

❌ Second Visit — Not the Same • Called ahead and was told walk-ins were fine — no reservation needed • When we arrived, the place was full, including all bar seats • Had to sit at a regular table — the vibe felt more like a casual eatery 🪑

Issues we faced: • Drink orders were written on paper by the server and passed to the bartender • Bartender served our drinks first but explained them to the next table instead 😅 • Drink explanations felt rushed and unenthusiastic • The drink I got wasn’t tasty at all (honestly, the free welcome drink was better) • A female staff member (possibly the owner?) gave off a vibe that made the whole experience less enjoyable

This is the bar for cocktails lover. No food served, but the provide salty snack complementary. They carry a wide range of liquor around the world and cocktails mixture which we can not imagine. There is no menu, the best part is either you let them to create the drinks for you by giving them the feeling/occasion you want to see theire creation. You will be surprised how it come out. For me , I like fresh and sour, they made me such a lovely drinks. Pricing for average drinks is around 400 THB. If you order something special like one of a kind wisky, you might need to ask first, cause there is one drink we didn't know the price, it turns out 800 THB. Most of the drink it is reasonable. Furthermore the bartender will offer the liquor shots all nights( free flow). No parking, come by taxi cause you will go back by taxi. Entrance no sign hidden door.
