One word: a SHAME!
I don’t think I have already been so disappointed about a restaurant in all my life. So I will break my habits and write a review about it: -Booked there with my GF to celebrate my 40th birthday: super cold welcoming and table (2 tables for 2, put together with 2 plates on it, for you to feel really uncomfortable from the 1st second...) -Suggestions of the day are not written anywhere. You have to beg to know what they have, and if you want to know the price, you have to beg too. -When a ridiculous “amuse-bouche” arrived, I already wanted to leave (a crumb of kind of tart and a soup spoon of carrot in vinegar... For 2...) but did not wanted to ruine my BD diner so we carried on... -But when they brought the already half-cold melted Camembert, as our plates were still full of shells of previous starters (that nobody picked up out of course), and that I tried to order a bottle of red wine, we decided to leave, without main course, as the “service” was dangerously sliding into very bad joke... -And to make us remember this bad night for ever, they had the brillant idea of bringing me a “birthday cake” (my gf asked for that when she booked the table) even if we had already ask for the bill: not only a 7/11’s cake is better, but they couldn’t even write a text properly on it!! And charged it on the invoice! First time in 40 years that I see a restaurant invoices a piece of cake to a customer when coming to celebrate BD there! And for this quality, after this terrible beginning of diner, it was definitely tooooo much!!! -Nothing to say about food, which was very good (apart from amuse-bouche and cake), but all the rest was a nightmare and an insult to us as customers. Quality of the food doesn’t excuse everything. Specially at that prices. I don’t feel proud of being French when I see such a place. I don’t thank you at all for this...
Read moreEvery dish was too salty, not really subtle as they should be. The octopus capaccio and the seafoods were not really fresh. Truffle pizza was so, so. The supposedly fresh sardines from France were similarly salty and the size were small, thin and headless- as you can see from the pics. Not like anything you would find in the Continent.
The best thing, was, funnily the free bread.
Edit: To reply to the Chef,
Dear Chef,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my review.
I think you must have confused the table, as you did not stop by our table at any time, neither did we took anything home.
Also, we did told one of our servers that the foods were very salty, although towards the end of the meal.
As for the foods and ingredients, I think it is essential that you do cooks your restaurant's foods for the servers, so that they would actually know the taste and the way you meant to prepare/serve each dish.
The most disappointing dish of last night was the Sardines. I did enquired before ordering whether they would be served as in France as the server claimed it to be, i.e. grilled whole with some salad ( and lemon) to which they told me it would be.
As you know, the dish that was served was no where near the standard grilled sardine you would find in Europe. I have had many opportunities to have grilled sardines in the Summer while living there, just imagine the disappoint when seeing a few things fillets of salty sardines on the salad that was served.
I am not a chef nor a professional taster, please take this just as an honest...

Dining at Cagette Canteen & Deli is like being transported to a rustic French countryside eatery, right in the heart of Bangkok. The ambiance is charming, with an open kitchen and a selection of artisanal cheeses and charcuterie that beckon from the deli counter.
The menu offers a delightful array of French classics. The duck is succulent, the foie gras terrine is rich and velvety, and the seafood dishes are fresh and flavorful. Each bite speaks to the quality of ingredients and the chef's dedication to authentic French cuisine.
However, the service embodies that classic French nonchalance. While not overtly rude, there's a certain aloofness that might come across as indifference. It's the kind of service where you might feel like you're interrupting their day by asking for a menu. But perhaps that's part of the charm—a true experience wouldn't be complete without a touch of haughty detachment.
Just come prepared for a dining experience that's as much about the food as it is about embracing the full spectrum of French...
