No, im sorry Dear owner, im sorry- but not even close.... i was very excited to have an authentic Argentinian restaurant 2 min from my house, was hoping to make it my Friday night place- but no go.
ordered the Bife de chorizo- and although the taste was fine and the meat was of good quality , the steak was Dry, very dry - maybe it's due to the fact that someone decided it would be a good idea to Cut my cooked steak into small pcs and serve it to me cut!! i'll be honest , this is a first for me- never had this before. Dear Chef - do you know what happens when a cooked pcs of meat is cut to small pcs ? all the juices and moisture starts to come out and your left with a dry steak - which is exactly what i experienced - Let me Cut my own steak at my own time , to the size that i want - dont Cut a cooked steak for the customer. tell me what "Argentinian " restaurant have u visited that did that?
Wine: ordered 2 glasses for my wife and myself - we got 1 glass that can be equated to a third of what a wine glass should be and the other to about half. - not only did the "barman" had no concept of what a glass of wine should be (around 175 ml) the 2 glasses had completely different quantities in them and it looked strange getting them to the table (not to mention that we had to order more to get throw our dinner)
Desert: had "panqueques con Dulce de leche" a typical- simple and delicious Argentinian desert. But when the desert arrived - we couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed . we got a big plate with 1 (small) panqueque , it looked weird and funny, but mostly it reflected the mentality of the restaurant -Charge premium and serve the bare minimum - opposite of Argentinian mentality. the name "panqueques" as it's written in the menu is plural for pancake , yet we got 1 small pancake in a much too big plate - we were 2 diners -it just looked sad. panqueques are really easy to make and dirt cheap too - would it hurt to put 3-4 on the plate and have the customer feel satisfied? - charging 200 THB for that left us with a bitter taste in out mouths instead of the Sweet taste Dulce de leche should.
This Restaurant is clearly targeting Local Thai's - and that's fine but if you are a foreigner (not to mention Argentinian, as I am) and u like your meats - skip...
Read moreOn a rather impulsive whim, I decided to explore the Argentinian fare at Don Assado, a restaurant discreetly tucked away in a residential corner of Yan Nawa. The labyrinthine route to reach it only adds to its sense of exclusivityâthis is not a place one stumbles upon by chance. Every guest has made a conscious effort to dine here, and from what I observed, the atmosphere was lively and convivial.
For my meal, I opted for a few safe bets, starting with the chorizo sausage. It was soft, comforting, and pleasant, though I felt a touch more heat would have been welcome to truly bring out its character. The burger, to my surprise, was deeply flavorful, the meat standing out as a highlight. The bun, though a bit spongy, had the redeeming quality of being clearly homemade, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the pickled cucumber was underwhelmingâsmall in size and oddly bitter, a misstep in an otherwise well-assembled dish.
The pork ribs, however, were disappointingâdry and cut into pieces so small that they seemed more suited for a soup than a main course. On a brighter note, the fries were excellentâcrunchy, golden, and served in a generous portion.
The restaurant itself is charming, with a warmth and character that set high expectations. However, I couldnât help but feel that the food did not quite rise to the level of the ambiance. While certain elements were enjoyable, the overall experience did not leave a lasting impression. It is unlikely that I...
Read moreI also wished I had a great time like other reviews, but I didnât. I rushed to the restaurant because the rain was getting heavier - asked the security guard where the door is, he laughed at me and pointed. My partner arrived earlier, and he noted that when he mentioned to the staff he had a reservation - the staffâs tone in responding was not welcoming.
The food was ok - not mindblowing, maybe Iâm not the targeted audience, to be fair. Honestly. I adore steaks and my partner having spent time in Argentina, we were really looking forward to many menus. It was regretful that we didnât enjoy anything in particular even the signature dish.
When the signature dish came, the setting was visually impressive, so I was asking the staff whether she can cut some off the bone and plate it for us. Iâm not sure whether she misheard, but she looked at me in the eye and just walked away without responding. Perhaps I come on a busy day, but I felt I didnât get the service, the meals or the experience expected.
I probably wonât come back in a very long time - and wonât be recommending the place to my friends / family either. I didnât have a good time, despite genuinely wanting to have a Good Friday night.
Looking at the review, it seems Iâm the minority. Maybe it really just my luck...
