We usually go to Via Emilia for our Italian fix, but we decided to mix it up and try Starita because it was my wife's birthday, and she had her heart set up Panna Cotta, which our usual place does not have, so we looked it up, and Starita popped up as having it on the menu.
Nice welcome and good atmosphere walking up to the place. Bright and cheery. Staff not wearing masks, so we could see their smiles. So far so good.
Then we got the menus and my wife saw the mention of Panna Cotta and said she was so excited about having some on her birthday. The Italian owner/manager (?) overheard her, and came over to tell us that they didn't have anymore available. Major bummer! I offered my wife that we could move elsewhere, but she decided to stay. That was probably a mistake.
The disappointment continued to build. We thought this was a real authentic Italian restaurant, but I could tell once we were there, it's really just a pizza place. Almost everyone was eating only pizza. Also, their Facebook ads only show pizza. We got a pizza because they didn't have what we wanted, and it was pretty good, but very soggy in the center (typical problem with Neopalitan style pizzas).
They didn't have any Gnocci. They didn't even have any pasta with a Gorgonzola sauce. We settled on a lasagna, and that was a mistake. It was the worst I've ever had. it came out looking very dry with a bit of melted cheese on top. There was no tomato or bechemel sauce on it at all. Only ground beef, pasta and cheese. Oily and no flavor. We each took one bite and looked at each other and frowned. We did take it home and rebaked it with a homemade marinara sauce and it was much better.
Drinks were also a massive disappointment. We like to drink when we go out, and I don't mind splurging a little bit, but there is a difference between splurging and being taken advantage of. They charge nearly 300 baht for a 320 ml glass of beer. Our usual Italian place charges the same for 500 ml. In fact, everything here cost 100 baht more than our usual place. I guess it's the Thong Lor syndrome. As a general rule, we don't go out in Thong Lor, and this experience was a good reminder of why.
I feel a little bad, because the manager/owner guy did come over and ask "is everything OK?" But what could I say? There wasn't a fly in my pasta. The pizza wasn't cold. There wasn't a real problem. I just didn't like the menu, the recipes, or the prices.

Read moreHad dinner on Monday, 30 Dec 21.10 pm. Am standing in front of the restaurant looking at the menu waiting to be seated. At that same time there was this tattooed waiter was attending 3 guys 3 meters from where I stood. I am pretty much sure my presence quite obvious. When he finished with the 3 guests, he directly went inside. I was surprised and keep waiting to be seated after almost 5 minutes I was at the front of outside area, there was waitress when she was busy with attending guests understand the cues and signalling to other waiter to assist me. This waiter with an accent trying to be nice and asked how he could help me, I told him if I went to a restaurant what would I do? And repeating to ask the same thing, disaster. I told him if not because I want to try the pizza I just walked away instantly, so I proceeded to have a seat (they don't bother whether I would like to have it inside or outside. For context, there were around 11-12 pax inside the room and 3 guys outside and the waiters grouping / standing in cashier are God know what they were doing
I ordered the pizza and he asked what would I like to drink and I said plain water. Not coming at all until I finished my meal.
To be honest at certain point I had addressed that I didn't want to be attended by them (these 2 guys) so I called the waitress (too bad her English below bare minimum) but I did informed that I wanted dried chili
This accent waiter come to me, again, and with the idea of him pushing me to accept that he could serve me, I rejected and we quarrel he kept insisting want to help me until there is point that I told him that I am not comfortable that he pushed me, and insisted to prolonged the quarrel when I was about to start my meal, I was really hungry and the behavior of this accumulated my disappointment.
Free Appetizer was chewy, wondering whether this is intended or just plain rested too long in open air. I ordered quattro formaggi and it was good.
The closing even worse when I said I want to scan to pay this accent waiter said no need to pay. This is MAJOR insult, they thought I could not pay? They thought this was incident for not paying? Again we did quarrel on bar table and felt very insulted, disaster night
Not going to be back to this...
Read moreOur best Italian restaurant in Bangkok! Some steps away from soi 13, but with the assistance of GoogleMAP, you never get lost. It seems that you can park your car in the Oakwood residece underground parking space, which is adjacent to the restaurant. Kids' chair & plates available. Staff are nice and helpful. Not only talking about this restaurant, but sometimes the text menu doesn't help our decision making. Don't worry. They have a tablet that shows all the menu with photos! Staff helps me to choose and order the dishes, thanks. One Saturday night we visited them with relatives, but all the tables were busy and reserved. We took seats at the outside table. It was slightly dark and a big fan kept working during our dinner, but it was okay. They said they often had a live music concert, so for the weekend I recommend you to make a booking beforehand. Their seafood is fresh. Seafood pasta in my photo, I don't know its name, tastes very good. We order that every time. It's a little bit spicy, so not for kids unfortunately. We love their Marinara pizza. Definively...
