Mama Dang Kitchen — Restaurant in Ko Lanta Yai

Food was not bad but the service was abysmal. I was with 2 friends and their meals came out fast but mine was delayed. I asked the server and (only because prompted) he said “the kitchen forgot your order”. No apology was made and he didn’t tell us if it was due to come out. I kept checking in and the staff looked extremely bothered that I was even asking (whilst I was very hungry and stressed). In the end I waited 1hr10 after their meal for mine to arrive (I would have just left but they intimidated us and made us feel that we couldn’t leave until we paid for the whole thing). I’ve never been treated like this in Thailand; most people are so lovely! It was really confusing. At the end, given the immense delay, the most baffling thing was that no offer was made for anything to be deducted from the bill (not even a beer to say sorry for the wait… we asked if it would be possible to remove my meal but they said “no, you ate it” I mean… that should be the bare minimum (and yes - I ate it because I was hungry and I’d already waited so long!)

Definitely overpriced for what you're getting. Had the Khao Soy and asked for tofu instead of seafood. Nothing special, I've had better plating and taste at other places in the area. ( ex. Three sisters ) I found a strand of hair one bite away from finishing my last Vietnamese spring roll. I pulled it out and still ate it but .. meh. My partner had prawns with rice. Ate it all and seemed to be pleased with the food. There was no soap or tissue in the bathroom and the sink was icky to the point that a wipe was used to turn the faucet on. Some of the menu items didn't have a price listed. The prawns ended up being an overpriced surprise and it was one of the most expensive meals we've had in Koh Lanta. We stumbled upon this Restaurant and what a gem it turned out to be! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by an lady wearing a Bob Marley shirt, which immediately sparked our curiosity. The place had a cozy, homey feel, with chickens wandering between the tables and a relaxed, authentic atmosphere.

Over the course of three evenings, we worked our way through the menu and were blown away every single time. The food was hands down the best we had during our two-month trip through Thailand. The Khao Soi and Fried Rice were absolute standouts – bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked.
