Charcoal Bay Wine & Grill was one of the best dining experiences of my trip to Thailand. Located right on the beach walking street, it combines great food with a beautiful ocean view and a calm, romantic atmosphere. We actually came here twice because we enjoyed it so much. The dishes we tried included the pork and apple skewers, the Fisherman’s Son seafood sharing plate, a whole grilled fish and the duck leg confit. Everything tasted exceptional. The flavors were rich and smoky, thanks to their special Spanish brick oven that gives the food a distinct grilled aroma and texture.
The staff were friendly and attentive, and the owner came by to chat and make sure everything was fine. They even have two friendly dogs walking around, which added a cozy and welcoming touch. Service was a bit slow at peak time but always polite and warm.
Prices are very fair for the quality you get, and it’s a nice surprise that VAT and a 5% service charge are already included, unlike many other places. Overall, I’d give Charcoal Bay a full 5 out of 5. Excellent food, lovely setting and genuine hospitality. Definitely a restaurant I would...
Read moreI am super impressed with the food, drinks, wine list and the service. This is definitely my latest top restaurant on Koh Tao. Price is actually reasonable since the quality of food is really good and easily comparable to the top restaurants in Bangkok. Atmosphere is also very nice and comfy, perfect for sunset vibe both as romantic getaway or family vacation. There were some mosquitoes but the restaurant manager (or owner) provide us a mosquito repellent spray per request.
In addition, I see many other comments giving bad reviews and complaint about the price, which I think it is not justified. To be fair, the restaurant is in a different tier compared to other affordable - local grill stalls nearby. Considering the variety of menu and quality of the food I had, I don't think this restaurant made that much profit or either a rip off to customers. Though the restaurant could be crowded at sunset hour and be challenging for them to serve every customer, I think they are doing very good job for the service and are doing this by heart.
To get a good seat for the best sunset view, reservation is...
Read morePerfect 5 considering the location and competition around! By a mile the best restaurant in Koh Tao, at least from what we could experience during our 8 days stay on the island. As opposed to the vast majority of other places price reflects the quality of the food and ingredients! The service is as it should be, fast on time in the right order etc. Every time we went to try another place to eat we would deeply regret it and ran back to heal the pain of disappointment ))) If you are interested in a fine dining experience please do not hesitate, just get in here and relax! The view of the sunset is amazing, wine selection is good (considering the location, not many places to get a good wine on the island in general). Deserts are great, only 2 options but both amazing. Seafood is fresh and well prepared. Just a beautiful place to be, and yes you won't get a service like that anywhere on the island. I'm a big fan and will definitely come back if I ever...
