My boyfriend and I found this restaurant along the Pai walking street only on the last night of our stay in Pai, which we have tried a few others and were disappointed. However, Sugarcane was the gem we found and were surprised by the quality of food - authentic Thai taste and fresh ingredients. We had the pineapple fried rice which was one of the best we have tried in Thailand, Papaya Salad, which they used premium grade dried shrimp which gives an extra flavor (similar to Japanese Sakura shrimps), pork satay that was super tender and tasty, Tom Yum w chicken that has that spicy kick! Even a simple dish of Broccoli and shrimp was done very well! Everything here is great and staff were very friendly! The owner even go around the table introducing herself and it was heartwarming to know they are back in business after 2.5 years of hiatus from Covid. Build on a large surface, SugarCane has 3 different counters: Various d rinks, Fruitshakes and even a Texmex stand. The Thai kitchen is at the back near the old family well.
They run a small but well managed menu card with or without spices (if possible). Classic Thai, Issan and 2 different steamfish preparations are among the highlights.
One can sit on chairs or Thai style on the floor to eat.
The owner, a daughter of the family house has a good command in english and there is a nice ambient in general in this large partly open air restaurant.

the smoothie was not smooth, was super lumpy
the chicken wings were brown and disgusting inside - nothing like they used to be
i ordered chicken curry, was supposed to come with naan bread
they brought it out and didn’t have naan, came with rice
I was just like what happened? they said it was their fault they didn’t know
If it wasn’t coming with bread i would have ordered something else
a curry isn’t a curry without bread - lets be real
the pad thai was average
overall, i wouldn’t go back here - i paid for the smoothie and pad thai and said im not paying for the rest
