Basil Thai Kitchen Turtle Village — Restaurant in Mai Khao

Horrible service. Food was ok, massaman curry was nice even, but everything was totally eclipsed by the ultra bad service. The wait staff looked like they didn’t want to be there n didn’t want anyone to be there at all because we were a bother to them and it showed in their behaviour.

The waitress didn’t greet or welcome or even bother to smile when we went in. Just waved us in instead of showing us to a table. She didn’t smile when she finally came to take orders. When she walked away, she was almost rolling her eyes. When she served our drinks, she just plonked them at the edge of the table n dumped the straws on the table instead of serving the 2 drinks to us.

And when another waitress brought a dish to our table, she plonked it at the edge of the table n didn’t bother to clear the empty plates. Subsequently she walked past again and saw that we had piled up our dishes - I saw that she had seen the pile of dishes- but she walked right on leaving us to partake of our remaining dishes with the pile of unsightly plates on the table.

Seriously, if you don’t wish to serve customers, don’t be a waitress; be a dishwasher or kitchen hand unseen by customers. I hope the owner sees these real reviews about their wait staff who ensure that we never want to go back regardless of the food. If they don’t believe these reviews they should send some people to go and dine incognito and see for themselves.

In a nutshell, if you want to enjoy a meal, do yourself and your fellow diners a favour- DON’T GO TO BASIL THAI.

P.S. There were only 3 tables of diners; it wasn’t like the restaurant was crowded n they couldn’t cope; they simply couldn’t be bothered to ensure you didn’t have a negative...

Food was actually good with portions being adequate. However, we had some other issues here. The staff was not personable nor did they go out of their way to be friendly. The second meal we had there, we ordered multiple dishes. When we were done with the meal, we realized that they had forgotten to bring out one dish. We made the waitress aware of that fact and told her that we were done with our meal and that we didn’t want it. She went back and came back saying that since we ordered it, we can’t cancel it! We were so shocked when we heard that! Any decent and normal place would apologize profusely and say that they will not charge for the dish since they forgot to make it....not here!! It’s all about money. We went back to the hotel with such a negative feeling that totally destroyed our evening there. Like fools, we went back there that same week for dinner. The food was good but at the very end when I gave them my credit card, they said that they didn’t take credit cards. I told them that I used my credit card last time I ate there. I was then told that the credit card terminal was not working and they only took cash. I then told her that I didn’t have any cash. When I told her, somehow, miraculously the credit card terminal started to work! I usually don’t like to put negative reviews but I didn’t want anyone else going through what we went through. Very money hungry and shady...

I was quite sceptical of visiting this place, especially after reading some of the reviews. We are a family of four and two of them are strictly vegetarian, so they cannot even stand the smell of fish sauce and the restaurant did smell like fish so that was the first alarm, but still the food that we ordered, especially the vegetarian, had no smell which was a delight. We ordered two dishes to start with and then ended up ordering two more. The green curry and the eggplant with tofu and chillies, were really good. For chicken, we ordered black pepper chicken with omelette. That was very so so, but the other dish (chicken with cashew, stir fry kind) was very nice. Overall, the portion size was not too much, but then it’s not very expensive place as well so it turned out to be okay. Would still suggest people to visit the place as the service surely must have improved as we did not face any problem, despite of the comments written about their service, as recent as two months ago. And they were also ample amount of empty tables for us to sit. Overall good experience though would still suggest them to have better ventilation in the Resturant to get rid...
