My family and I went to this pub after seeing the crazy mixed reviews online about the food, specifically the Mexican food. We are from California and Mexican food is my absolute favorite. We saw so many reviews of people being surprised to find such good Mexican, to reviews of it being absolutely terrible. We made assumptions that it was probably good Mexican food for British folks who had never had good Mexican, so we had to see for ourselves, and maybe save some poor folks in the future.
It's probably good Mexican food... for a BRITISH style pub, but for those of you with actual taste buds for Mexican cuisine, you're not going to be satisfied here. That said, I didn't actively dislike the food. It was just boring. In total, we tried the nachos, chips and roja salsa, beef tacos, and chicken/beef burritos.
The meat had no seasoning on it and everything needed at LEAST some salt. The chips I actually thought were made well, and my family said the tortillas were good, but everything else was bland. The salsa was hot. Let me clarify, it was hot, not spicy, it was literally hot in temperature. The salsa we ordered for the chips was supposed to be the spicier option. It was not. We ended up adding chipotle Tabasco to it for some extra flavor/spice. Needing more spice in a restaurant in Thailand was not something I thought I'd ever have a problem with. The pico salsa, was basically tomatoes, it needed much more onion, cilantro, peppers, and lime to be a proper salsa, the same was true for the guac. The Mexican rice in the burritos needed more seasoning just like everything else. Again, nothing tasted bad, just bland.
Now, the margaritas were interesting. They had a "buy two, get a third free" special that we took advantage of, trying all three fruit flavors (mango, strawberry, and passion fruit). I didn't taste any alcohol in any of the flavors we got, but they were still tasty. The passion fruit was the table favorite, and is worth ordering, especially if you like sweet drinks.
My husband got the only non-mexican item at our dinner with the wagyu BBQ cheeseburger. He was disappointed, stating it was too overcooked for his tastes. I did try what was being called the BBQ sauce, and was very disappointed. It tasted like tomato paste. Definitely needed a kick of vinegar and brown sugar to make it taste more like BBQ. I'd be very curious to see what the more traditional pub food tastes like, because the Mexican food is not where it's at with this place.
Food aside, the service was good and they had a live duo singing on stage which was nice. The woman even came over to our table and had my mom sing along, which she enjoyed. If you're not there for food and just looking for a place to get some drinks and hang out, it's probably not a bad spot. The overall...
Read moreI visited this restaurant when we went to Phuket. This is one of the restaurants around the hotel/villa where we stayed. We went there for dinner together with my baby nephew. The place is good. The lighting was good enough to set a romantic and relaxing dining. The place also has pool tables where guest can entertain themselves while waiting for their food to arrive. The place also smelled good meaning it does not smell like cigarette smoke inside. This is one very important factor we consider in dining since we have a baby with us. The comfort room is spacious and clean complete with soap, tissue papers, hand dryer and mirror. Very comfortable also for guest with baby who needs to change nappy. The food is also mouth-watering and freshly prepared upon order. I failed to take a picture of the other food we ordered since we ate it immediately. The service is also great. The staff are very personal in asking and addressing the request of the guest. Don't miss out so make sure to visit...
