Went for a Valentines set dinner, the food was appalling and nothing Italian about it. No decent Italian restaurant would serve such poor quality food. Starters were an Antipasto plate to be shared which was very cheap meats, soggy Bruchetta that had obviously been sitting anround for a long time and some fairly nasty very salty cheap cheeses all accompanied by a glass of the cheapest Prosecco that was like trying to drink battery acid. Scallops in a very Italian pomegranate sauce? They were tough and overcooked and replaced by the chef, much better second time round but still did not appreciate the pomegranate sauce which was far too acidic for the scallops. Next came a Tuscan seafood soup with Lobster bisque, this was more like a consommé with some poor seafood and a large piece of squid that was tough and impossible to eat with a spoon. Next came cod which we were assured was cooked personally by the chef which was very nice compared to what we had been offered earlier. The dessert arrived and this was a very hard and heavy chocolate bomb which we did not really try to eat. The Head waiter and chef were very apologetic and I think knew how bad things were and the quality of ingredients. The chef even asked if we would come as his guests in March. We were then given a tiramisu and a panne cotta to try, neither of which should make it through the door of an Italian restaurant, tiramisu having very little coffee taste and no alcohol which they say is made for Arab diners (I’m pretty sure that Arabs like strong coffee)? The Panne Cotta bore no resemblance to what s Panna cotta should be, just a tall glass of very heavy cream and not a light wobbly creation. There is really no excuse for this restaurant set in the Amari hotel with 1 bottle of Voigner white wine our bill was 10,000 baht us after adding 7% Vat and 10% service charge. I feel that as nice as the offer was from the chef to invite us back that this restaurant has so many things wrong that we will not be taking up his offer. Please expect a nice view but nothing else, there are far better local Italian restaurants for a fraction of the cost of La Gritta, don’t believe all you read this restaurant ranks as one of the worst I have ever been to. I forgot to mention, when we arrived we were not on the list, only when I showed them the confirmation on my phone did they show us go a table and said you have paid a deposit? I corrected them to say that we had up front for everything as they requested, we should have had a good idea what was...
Read moreWent there during my holidays to surprise my partner. In general, vibes were nice but sadly there wasnt any sunset at this area. Dining next to the beach was therapeutic and the view was definitely a great bonus.
Getting hold on the service staff was really difficult even though it was just a few tables. Not sure if there is anyone that was suppose to station outside as half of the time they were inside the restaurant. Food was slightly above average I would say. We sat there pretty long and the complimentary bread came quite awhile later. We didnt even receive any olive oil or vinaigrette to pair the bread with (we were suppose to receive it).
I had the magherita which was okay. Wouldnt say it’s super authentic, but I do still enjoy it. Had the bruschetta classica, tomatoes were fresh and thats about it. Should have ordered something with cheese on it that could elevate the dish a little bit. For pasta wise, I had the ravioli al granchio. The dish that stood out to me and I do enjoy every bite of it. It was full of crab and it was not too heavy on the palate. It was done really well. I also had the mafaldine, this was pretty much basic with just tomato base and lobster. Pasta was al dente and it tasted pretty much 1 dimension. Had tiramisu afterwards and this is not bad. However the cream layer on top is a little bit too much and didnt feel like the whole dish was balanced out. But other than that, it was creamy and rich.
Only giving a 4 star due to lack of service and attention. Could...
