Below is a review written some time ago about their breakfast options. This is an update having come for lunch and ordered spaghetti bolanese. Utterly disgusting and nothing that even resembles spaghetti. I wouldn’t eat this if I was paid to. I certainly wouldn’t come back for it. Disgusting!
It used to be that you would pay a premium at The Continental but for a premium breakfast and experience. Sadly that’s no longer. Today you will pay more than ever, get less food than ever and receive less service than ever. It used to be that I had 3 recommendations for people coming to Pattaya for breakfast from cheapest but good to most expensive and best and The Continental was the latter. Sadly the Continental doesn’t even make the list anymore. They aren’t even in contention to make the list. The air-conditioning doesn’t function, you’ll receive service from someone that speaks no English whatsoever and will be completely lacking resources in the event you have a complaint or need anything that you cannot point to a picture of in the menu. The English breakfast no longer comes with back bacon. In fact, none of the “English” breakfasts do aside from the “Special English breakfast” which of course is the most expensive. They used to serve toast with a perfectly portion of butter and jam and now they serve it with a entirely inadequate amount of margarine and jam. Even the most skilled among you won’t get full toast coverage with even the greatest attention to detail. Anyway, I think you get the idea. The business model used to be a good one; Charge a premium, offer premium. Today they have lost their way and are trying to compete with more affordable options. As a result they fit no perceivable niche. The breakfast is not as good as Nicky’s Bar for an example but costs significantly more and you get poorer service. It’s utterly stupid to be honest. What they should do is either concede to being a cut rate breakfast and slash prices to actually compete or, raise prices (if that’s what they need to do) and go back to the model of offering the best breakfast money can buy in Pattaya. But for God...
Read moreWent to this place because it's suppose to be the best bakery in Pattaya. Arrived shortly after 07:15 on Monday. (The place opens at 05:00.)
Half of their available breads was thick sliced "English Breakfast" white bread. Most of their other breads available on their shelves had only 1 or 2 loaves. So I looked for sourdough, and the space was devoid of any loaf. This place has not much more breads than their original location in Jomtien, which isn't much.
Disappointed on the selection, I left without purchasing anything. I can find much more at the local Food Mart which has stock of fresh breads from 6 local bakeries, albeit some not so good; and some very good.
Having been now to 2 locations of The Continental Bakery (both small) I can say they have a good number of customers in their restaurant for breakfast. So maybe they rely more on their menu items than their baked...
Read moreAside from selling Old World, but very fresh bread (come early, it is sold out in the late afternoon) the Continental Bakery and Restaurant off colorful Soi Buakhao also surprises with an amazing variety of food of all nations. Vienna Schnitzel, American Ribeye, Spaghetti Napoli, Russian Pickles -- here you can make a culinary world tour without getting your derriere out of a chair. Their menu sported 44 (!!) pages when we were there. After many trials in the neighborhood, we made The Continenral our breakfast spot of choice, but we ran out of mornings to sample all their breakfasts that range from the simple to the elaborate (Bratwurst Breakfast anyone? Canadian with maple syrup?) Don't miss the cakes and pies. Opens at 5a, closes at...
