The Place Khao-lak — Restaurant in Phang-nga Province

Healthy but not healthy.

I ordered a smoothie bowl which looks delicious, but after first spoon I instantly felt that added-sugar hit (and when you don't eat sugar you FEEL it).

So I asked do they add sugar to their smoothies, but was told they add apple juice to achieve consistency (saying it's natural, or something like that). Then I asked to look at the package of apple juice, and guess what - 80 apple juice concentrate + 20% grape juice concentrate, all resulting in 10% of sugar per volume.

I gave them an honest feedback why this is not the way you make smoothies / smoothie bowls (and clearly not what people expect when they order it), and I hope they change the approach in future. It could have been an amazing bowl.

If you don't want your morning insulin spike through the roof ensure you specifically tell them not use this "juice" garbage.

To be fair, they did offer to make a new one, but that doesn't change the point above.

The best cafe in Khaolak. I had been living there for 4 months last year. The place was just opened at that time and I was there just to try out new cafe around the area. Turned out, I got hooked with the taste of the coffee and the food, the vibes in the cafe and most importantly, the people there at The Place. I went there almost everyday either to work on my laptop or to hang out with friends.It’s such a great place to do so and well located in Khaolak. I felt really comfortable being there. I can’t highly recommended this cafe enough. Until now, I moved to live abroad already but always miss The Place and people there so much. Also there are products mostly about surf stuff and also accommodation there as well.

The place is not the place...

A really nice little spot just up from our hotel (the Sands by Katathani). They have great coffee, some terrific local craft beer and a simple but tasty all day breakfast menu, which we always love. The cafe doubles as a cool clothing shop and it has an overall nice atmosphere to have a nice little lunch. I bought a great shirt too, something very unique that I wouldn’t find anywhere else.
