Makkaam is situated directly behind my condo complex. If there were only a back gate, I could be there in about two minutes. But there is no gate, so I must walk around. It is a nice ten minute walk. Very convenient. On our first visit, we had pork fried rice, pork green curry, fish cakes, plain rice, and some stir-fried dish that my girlfriend ordered. We were the first people to arrive. It was around 4:30. Our orders were taken and then we waited…and waited….and waited. Another couple showed up to dine. We waited and swatted mosquitoes. The food showed up about 40 minutes later. It was all very good. One thing I noted was that in addition to being a little too sweet than I am used to, or care for, the curry dish and the clam dish was heavily seasoned with a green herb that tastes faintly of licorice. Is that tarragon? I have tasted it in other Thai dishes in other places, but not this heavily. The dishes still tasted wonderful, but I could have done with less of this herb. The menu is vast and has lots of choices. We will most certainly be back, considering how close it is to our home, but we will make sure that we bring our mosquito repellent and that there isn’t too many diners. The wait could be very long if that...

Maakadam Restaurant – A Hidden Gem by the Railway in Hua Hin

Tucked away behind a condominium complex, Maakadam Restaurant is a bit of a hidden treasure in Hua Hin. If you’re heading there for the first time, be prepared for a bit of an adventure—the restaurant is accessible via a dusty road right beside the railway. This off-the-beaten-path location adds to its charm, offering a secluded spot away from the main hustle of the town.

By day, Maakadam is a relaxed haven with garden seating, perfect for unwinding over authentic Thai cuisine surrounded by lush greenery. But come evening, it transforms into a lively dinner destination, drawing both locals and travelers for a memorable meal. Popular dishes include stir-fried seafood, fresh veggie plates, and tropical smoothies, all crafted to highlight the coastal flavors of Thailand.

For anyone willing to navigate the dusty road, Maakadam rewards with a tranquil yet vibrant atmosphere and an authentic dining experience. It’s a must-visit for those seeking a taste of Thai cuisine in a serene, almost hidden setting—ideal for a unique...

A little hard to find, definitely off usual tourist trails. The menu has a lot of Thai food not seen in the usual tourist places - allows you to be adventurous and try something new. We tried the wing bean salad - delicious. The green curry with meatballs was a surprise - each meatball was stuffed with egg yolk, green curry a symphony of fresh flavours. There are familiar items on the menu like fish cakes, papaya salad. Service is a little slow - sitting in the garden is comfortable and makes waiting ok. Order your drinks first. The restaurant is open air - covered. Take mosquito repellent as there can be mozzies around. Happy to...
