CICADA MARKET 4.7 stars
Location - 2.3km south of Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin; approx 5-minute Grab ride, or do like we do and take the 15baht Songthaew bus across from the hospital.
Open - Friday, Saturday, Sunday 4pm - 11pm. We visited this time at around 6:30pm on Friday, April 18, 2025.
Ambiance - not your typical night market! Upscale weekend market. Pretty lights and other decorations hanging from trees. Tonight, there was also a Songkran (New Year) display of falling water. It’s never been rowdy when we’ve visited… nice chill vibe. Lots of cicadas “singing” loudly off and on during our visits.
Food - we’ve had great food there. In fact, we went back tonight because they have the best cashew chicken (165 baht), according to my husband who orders the same dish about 60-75% of the time we eat out in Thailand. I got the minced beef with Thai basil (95 baht) which is very good, and the grilled squid which is also good (3 skewers for 100 baht), and watermelon juice no sugar (65 baht). Tonight we also got mango and sticky rice to take home (we rarely get dessert, but we leave on Sunday). It was 100 baht each serving and perfectly ripe and delicious.
Payment - no fee to enter market. Food venders don’t accept cash. You must buy tickets from the Coupon Box. Any tickets you don’t use, you simply sell back to the Coupon Box for full refund. Super simple.
Seating - lots of seating available, with staff clearing and wiping down tables as people leave.
Vendor Stalls - we’ve walked through all the art and other vendor stalls when we’ve had company visiting, but honestly, I’m just not a shopper, so I can’t really speak to what’s for sale or the pricing. I will say it’s clean, all under white “tents”, with items nicely displayed on tables.
Music - there is often live music being played
Recommend - yes! Not your typical night market
PS Immediately next door is Tamarind Market… a totally different experience to Cicada. No food or drink allowed in from outside. Much less “classy” feeling, but still a good vibe and usually with live music. Worth a visit when you...

A bit more 'upmarket' than the Hua Hin night market in town, and has more of a focus on stalls selling arts and crafts... There's also food stalls selling international fare; Thai, Korean BBQ, western etc as well as cold drinks. Very casual and relaxed. Definitely worth a visit.
