A Culinary Journey to Russia in the Heart of Huahin
After twice failing to answer the trivia question, "What is a Russian salad named after a famous person?" at Wendy's terrific Tuesday night quiz, I decided it was time to investigate in the tastiest way possible. My search led me to Well Done, a charming Russian restaurant tucked away on a peaceful soi in Huahin.
From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for something special. The quiet location made sitting outside a joy, as I soaked in the warm evening air and prepared to explore the menu. Naturally, my first order was the Russian-style potato salad, known as Olivier salad, the very answer to my trivia woes! Creamy, flavorful, and expertly prepared, it was the perfect introduction to this culinary adventure. By the way, the Olivier salad was created in the 1860s by Lucien Olivier, a French-Belgian chef at Moscow's famed Hermitage restaurant, where it quickly became a signature dish and a favorite among patrons.
Next, I tried the borscht, a hearty beetroot soup that was both comforting and packed with flavor. The food was clearly authentic, as evidenced by the other diners, most of whom were Russian. Their presence alone felt like an unspoken endorsement of the restaurant's quality.
The service was another highlight of the evening. The staff were prompt, attentive, and made a genuine effort to communicate politely in English, which added a welcoming touch to the experience.
I can't recommend Well Done enough. Whether you're a curious foodie or simply looking to try something different, this little gem is a must-visit. Authentic flavors, a relaxed atmosphere, and excellent service come together to create a dining experience that truly lives up to its name. Well...
Read moreIt is amazing that restaurant's management thinks it is ok to reply in THIS style to customers reviews, it means A LOT and deserves a lot of attention. 1 hour and a half before closing time (18:30), and even when a table going to be free, they say that we can't have a dinner because the kitchen is full (while I see all the customers already have the food) and only we can wait the food for 1 hour we can sit but better if will leave and not stay and have dinner (they working for delivery too!). Seems like staff just don't want to work, they want to close everything early. Amazing. We see right now another guest who asked to sit for the free table and staff also...
Read moreWell Done restaurant was an absolute gem! From the authentic ambiance to the impeccable service, everything was top-notch. We’ve tried many delicious dishes, but the vegetarian dumplings (both potato and cottage cheese) just stole my heart. Portions are big, but the food is so good that it’s hard to stop eating. However, leave some place for the dessert. Couldn’t decide which one I love more: honey cake or syrniki (Russian cottage cheese pancakes), definitely wanna eat them both again. If you're craving a taste of Russia while in Hua Hin, this is the place to be.
P.S. I’d recommend to book a table in advance, the place could be...
