Dinner at The View was a massive disappointment, perhaps one of the worst meals I've had especially considering the restaurant's caliber and price range.
Almost everything on the menu--aside from the drinks, desserts and vegan options--started at 1,000 baht. This place's selling point is of course the view, but with this price tag, the quality of the food served was simply undeserving. Nothing stood out, many dishes were bland, some dishes' concept and execution perplexing (the three pasta dish, for example). The only serviceable dish in my opinion was the shrimp risotto.
The staff were very helpful and friendly; however, the female head attending staff ironically nearly ruined our dining experience. While introducing the restaurant and menu, she went on a long, nervous-sounding ramble. She also avoided directly answering our questions, going off on a long, unrelated tangent, and only answered our questions directly after we reiterated like 3 times, essentially coming off as someone who really liked to hear herself talk, even if there was no essence to what she said, undoubtedly being the weirdest service staff experience we ever had. It was also annoying how the staff insisted on speaking and replying in English even though they nevertheless struggled to do so, and even when we spoke Thai to them. Perhaps they forgot they were Thai, or thay Thai guests in fact existed in their Thai hotel.
The namesake view, though, was fantastic, the restaurant's location offering a great view of the mountains, the ocean and the sunset. Huge warning for the mosquitoes though; as the restaurant was located on a hill surrounded by forest, there were a lot of mosquitoes. Even the mosquito repellent the staff gave did not alleviate the issue and I had never been bitten so much during a meal in my life.
I would only recommend people to this place if they only ordered drinks and some appetizers to accompany their main purpose of looking at...
Read moreI'll start off by writing, that we highly recommend making a reservation when you arrive at Ritz Carlton or sooner. Don't hesitate to book a spot if you are visiting for a special occasion, i.e. birthday or anniversary, or to pamper yourself and your partner.
Quick Tip: Do your best to arrive at least 20-30 minutes before sunset. I strongly recommend getting there before the sun goes down to capture the Golden hour while sipping some wine at the View. Eat at your own pace, and when you are ready for the next course, there is no rush; however, arriving with a little light can add a bit of specialness one would not receive if coming after it's utterly dark outside.
The vegetarian menu was good, but we know it can be better and expect our next visit to be on par with the carnivore menu. (wink wink, Chef Ivo) Speaking of, the carnivores' menu was something out of this world.
The menu for meat-eaters had us even rethinking our vegetarian diet. If we were ever on edge, this is the place to have your first meat platter, as the menu seems to be one that any meat eater would probably dream about for years after indulging.
Overall the ambience, the setting, and all they have created up at the View are well worth the experience at The View, which was highly memorable.. In short, you will not be disappointed; I thoroughly...
