We are into our first week of a three week (sea)food safari of Bangkok. We just had superb pork belly hang le curry here at Porwa. Not seafood that's true, but you should never pass by a genuine hang le.
This was one of the best we've ever had, including plenty that we had recently in Chiang Mai. The only other one that comes close in Bangkok is from Hom Duan at Ekkamai. This one had a little more ginger coming through, which I loved.
We also enjoyed a beautiful Khao soi gai. It too was delicious, with a proper chicken leg, not just pieces of chicken meat as some places do.
Both were light yet richly flavoured, perfectly balanced, thoughtfully crafted. The serves are generous, the restaurant was perfectly clean, and air conditioned.
There are so many northern dishes on the menu here. We will definitely be back here before we go.
Came back several times, and again January 2025. Absolutely perfect once again. Auntie even remembered us and our order from 10 months ago. Wow.
The hang le was a little lighter today but still glorious at 9.5/10. The flavours were all there - maybe later in the day would allow the curry to gain more depth. The fragrance is amazing. And the flavours build as you eat it, just as it should. The Khao Soi was perfect again, 10/10. Again, the flavours build with each mouthful.
Porwa is easily the best northern Thai food we have had in Bangkok, and rivalling the best of Chiang Mai, which is where we are heading in a...
Read moreWent there on a Saturday evening, after seeing my good reviews on their Khao Soi. The restaurant was almost empty, there were only me and two other table of guests. Was very disappointed that they did not have Khao Soi, and so I have to change my order to Phad Thai. Wanted to place order for their blue pea lime honey drink, again almost half of their drink menu were not available. The Phad Thai taste really average with strong ketchup taste. Verdict: If you are not near the area, it’s not worth the sweaty trip there. Really. I have to satisfy my dinner crave elsewhere. Staff were not exactly polite, i did not receive any ‘thank you’ when I walked over to the counter to make my payment or even on my way out, unlike other Thai restaurant. On the other hand, ambience is pretty fine if you enjoy a...
Read moreWent to this restaurant without expectation yesterday and decided to make a second visit this evening to try other items on the menu. In total, we tried ~8 dishes, focusing on the northern ones, and it is fair to say that we are satisfied with all of them. What stands out most to us is the Chinese vegetables and pork ribs soup, that we had it twice. The Khao Soi is also very flavourful, however, the richness of the coconut milk may not be everyone’s cup of tea. We appreciate the consistency of the food quality, the comfort and cleanliness of the restaurant. This justifies the price point because it is on a the higher side. The portions are generally reasonable. We wish that the pork ribs are slightly bigger but it is...
