This place has some of the best Teochew/Chaozhou kao-tom dishes in Bangkok (潮州粥/潮州打冷); most of their Thai customers come here for the kao-tom dishes. Teochew kao-tom is actually a Southern Chinese cuisine and it was brought over to Thailand by Thai-Chinese families. A famous food critic from Hong Kong once claimed that the most authentic Teochew food is from Thailand and not from China. Read moreWhen I stay at the Malaysia Hotel, I usually eat at least one meal in the Malai Restaurant. It is open 24 hours, has an extensive menu with foreign and Thai dishes and offers a good value for money in terms of flavor and portion size. Most recently I had a cream of mushroom soup and a sirloin steak. Both dishes were fine.
Late at night the restaurant can be host to some colorful characters out partying, so sometimes it can be quite boisterous.
