One of the most reviewed dim sum in Betong. We were drawn to that but man it was a disappointment.
Let us start with location. Located 10 meters away from Betong clock tower, means it is very centralised and very near to most hotels. Walking distance. Hard to find parking if you are driving but if you are riding, should not be an issue.
We reached there about 8 am and it was our FIRST dim sum in betong. Many said it was good so we ordered what we would normally order in Malaysia. The ordering sheet all in Thai and we had to use google translate to see what is the item. 3 different sheets; dim sum, bak kut teh and drinks.
We ended up going to the dim sum area and choosing what we want and pass to the staff. The size of the dim sum is awfully small and it doesn’t taste good at all. A very normal street like dim sum. My personal opinion, is overated. Perhaps because it is cheap.
We ordered bak kut the as well and also yu tiao. Surprisingly, BKT tastes good. The coffee was also acceptable. If you are not a fan of sweet drinks, try not to order Chrysanthemum tea. The colour looks like Kickapoo and it's very sweet.
WIFI is available which is good as the Thai government restrict roaming in the district of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani in an effort to prevent bombing by the separatist.
The whole breakfast cost is THB600++. Very very cheap. So it compensates for the tasteless dim sum. So it deserves 3 stars (my...
Read moreWe arrived at Betong pretty early, and was famished, a search on Google maps indicated that this shop was opened, and we drove a short while from our hotel and located this shop pretty easily.
There is limited parking lot around, and the traffic enforcement is running around to ensure you do not double park by the road side, but we are lucky to find a parking lot nearby.
Thru a mixture of malay/thai/english/cantonese we managed to place our order of dim sum, they do have a mixture of pork, fish, vege, chicken and other dishes.
The shop keeper immediately got the item heated up in good time to fill our hungry tummy.
We also ordered their thai tea which comes in a pleasant reddish orangy colour, they are quite heavy on the sugar, so beware.
When the food arrived, we wasted no time finishing them up.
Got to say, some of the dishes taste rather bland, and luckily there was a bottle of garlic chilli on hand to spice things up.
Only stand out dish was the shrimp dumpling, which taste like it, the rest of the dishes is rather forgettable, not that it terrible eating.
Prices is rather affordable even for the locals.
After finishing our meal, we went back to our car to find bird droppings allover our car, thats why that parking lot is not occupied, lol, the resident birds resides just above our carpark lot on the power lines....
Read moreOne of the places you must try in betong. This is a different kind of experience you get for eating dimsum and bak kut teh here. The dimsum has alot of variety, different then Chinese kind. You pick the frozen dimsum and they steam for you, so it may take some time. The paos are incredibly good but they sold out fast, it was soft ,light so easy to eat. Fish maw is also good here, bak kut teh here comes with a generous amount of meat too. There is also fried noodles and yamcake selling outside of the stall. The chee Cheong fun is not the smooth kind you would find in Malaysia Chinese dim sum, it's chewier and quite dry and it's not steaming hot. Overall really great experience, the price is so reasonable, just 1040 baht for 9 people eating so much food! Will definitely come here again if happen to...
