The food, service and atmosphere in youngs pubs is so bland and generic. They’re basically incredibly expensive Wetherspoons but with less personality.
This place is one of the worst I’ve ever been to.
Bartender (think he was called Pierre), served me one of my 3 drinks, half made my Bloody Mary and left it on the side, then just went to chat to someone else at the bar for 5 minutes whilst I waited for it and my pint to be poured.
When the Bloody mary finally arrived, “we don’t have any celery”, no Tabasco, pepper, salt, Worcester sauce or lemon. Hilariously bad service for a ridiculously expensive drink.
Then there’s the food, Young’s pubs are a complete rip off for very poor quality dishes but once again, this place takes the prize for worst I’ve ever been to.
Ordered sausage and mash, gravy is like a water glossy sauce that has a skin forming on it when it arrived. Sausages were grey on the outside and gristle laden on the inside. Mash tasted like smash.
Bavette and chips, ordered it rare, it came well done. Sent it back, to get another one. Took another 15 minutes for the second one to arrive, chips were cold.
Ordered the crumble and asked for it to come out with the mains as our friend only wanted a desert. Obviously it came out after our mains, despite me reminding the waiter to bring it asap. Lifeless, watery and flavourless is the best way to describe it.
Just avoid it, there’s loads of decent pubs in Notting Hill with good food and atmosphere. The mall tavern, hillgate and Windsor castle all knock spots...

Read moreAfter years of walking past the Duke of Wellington on Portobello Road and saying we should stop in, we finally decided to give it a try on a chilly October day. What a fantastic choice it turned out to be!
As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by a warm and lively atmosphere that instantly made us feel at home. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, which added to the overall positive experience.
We ordered our drinks at the bar—a delicious pint of Guinness for me and a lovely hot chocolate for my wife. Both were perfect for the cold weather.
When our food arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size. We opted for the sharing plate of Ploughman’s, which included a scrumptious Scotch egg that was cooked to perfection. The flavors were delightful, and there was plenty of food to satisfy our appetites.
Overall, our visit to the Duke of Wellington was a delightful experience, and we’re excited to make it one of our regular spots for food and drinks in Notting Hill....
