Maria's Bakery — Restaurant in Port of Spain

I really enjoyed the hazelnut coffee, and the barista was very pleasant. I'd stop at Maria's for coffee anytime.

Breakfast was a different story. I ordered a Breakfast Bagel, which comes with egg, cheese and sausage. I asked to swap the sausage with bacon, because I'm not a fan of sausage at all. Momentarily the cashier didn't seem to want to ask the kitchen to swap it out, but she eventually did. Nevermind they encourage you to customize your order if you want to.

I assume the bagel bread is house made, which is good, but it was nothing like a bagel. It was more like an English muffin on the inside with a smooth texture on the outside. There was also some kind of aioli sauce which didn't complement the sandwich at all, and made it kind of soggy. It wasnt included on the menu so I would've opted out of it for sure. I was pretty disappointed, but there was a lot of bacon so I was pleased with that.

I also bought a spicy beef pie, which I enjoyed.

All in all, I would go back to Maria's but definitely will try some of their other...

I enjoyed this place quite a bit. The food, the ambience, the location, the cleanliness, etc were all great! I had the beef pie and sausage roll both were good and enough to make me come back to try other items on the menu.

The only reason I give this place three out of five stars is because if I am to return I would love to experience some consistency. The service from the counter person was absolutely negligent to the point of ruining our experience. She acted as if we werent there and bothering her. As if it was our privilege to be served by her. No greeting or acknowlwdgement of us until we began to order. Then putting sugar in iced when I asked not to. I just hope to make sure that next time I go in this is a one off and not ok with management. Overall you have a great place but there are several mechanisms that could go wrong to deter people...

The lady with the locs working behind the counter last week was just downright unpleasant to deal with! More so after she messed up my order! I tried to shake it off when I left with my menu choices. However my crepe wasn't that enjoyable. The scramble eggs were more like overcooked pebbles. The blueberry pancakes weren't bad... the syrup to hotcake ratio was disappointing though. First and last visit for me. Unfortunately I don't see much reason to recommend other than the anesthetics through...
