Kai Çengelköy — Restaurant in Üsküdar

I could have given This restaurant 5 stars if I didn’t encounter what I encountered tonight! I visited Kai Restaurant 4 times for breakfast and dinner, and I can say their food and seating, especially at the sea front, is quite nice. The prices are a bit high. BUT... tonight I went with my friends for dinner, and as many people know, usually after lunch or dinner the waiter offers you tea or coffee on the house (ikram). After finishing our meal, the waiter offered us tea and we said yes. Yet when I asked for the check, I was surprised that I was charged 8 TL for each cup of tea!! I asked the staff, and the waiter simply said: (Sorry sir, I asked if you’d like tea and I didn’t tell you it’s “ikram”)! This weird attitude is exactly why I gave this restaurant a disappointing 3 stars. I haven’t noticed this previously because this was my first time to actually say (yes) when offered tea at this restaurant. This is why my only advice when visiting this place is: DO NOT FALL FOR TEA OFFER AFTER YOUR MEAL.. IT’S ON YOU, AND IT IS AN EXPENSIVE CUP...

EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK We had our breakfast in this place. As usual we didn't go for the standard plates with small shots of everything! As usual for many restaurants here, we were received by the staff with serious military faces! We sat outside second row to the sea front. It was still good as we enjoyed the view and fresh sea breath. We had fried eggs and a dish of tomatoes and cucumbers. Eggs were good, the cutlery looked clean and the salad looked fresh. The bread basket was also tempting. When I finished the last piece of tomato from the wooden plate, that was covered with some parsley, I found some brownish paste on the plate. It seems that it was not properly washed and no one cared to check cleanliness before using it. The harm was done and I had taken the whole lot! The tea was good and the tea glass was clean. We come to this restaurant twice every summer to enjoy the beautiful location right by the Phosphorus but unfortunately this year we noticed decline in service and quality. We ordered salad as starter and main course and after a long wait and after we drew their attention to our order they brought the salad together with the main course which was cold as it apparently was sitting on the kitchen table for too long. In all restaurants the salad is served first then the main course which should be served hot. We noticed that the waiters were busy talking and not focused on the orders of their customers. After such a bad service and cold food they added to the bill 240 tl as cover charge which we do not understand for what as they didn’t serve us...
