Previously, tried various Suvla wines in overseas. Made an online booking via email, and it was an easy process. I have been given the indoor or outdoor seating option. It was my first time and didn't know the venue so, I left the choice with the host. Host recommended me the indoor seating since 24/11 forecast was predicting rain.
The hostess was welcoming at the entrance and seated us quickly. Our waiter was good (we had multiple of them). We wanted to take our time, try some wine and have some entrées. Then decide on a bottle with our mains. Since items on the menu looked very appetizing.
We were seated very close to the terrace entrance and every time, the door opened a huge cold breeze would come in. At first, I didn't mind but as the time passed, the door opened more often which created a windy environment. It became colder and colder.
I have asked the server in black outfit who looked a more senior member of staff for a table change before our meals arrived. The table next to us made a comment for a table change as well. He apologized and told us that will look for another table. He went for a few minutes. Then came back and told us that they are looking to arrange a table. But of course it didn't happen. I guess in Turkey, you constantly need to ask for something to happen and if you don't, they think you are OK with it and problem solved. In the meantime, they turned on the air-conditioning, which is right on top of the terrace entrance but didn't prevent the breeze. At the point there were a lot of tables but of course could be reserved, however table of 2 could have been easily moved since all we asked was to get away from the terrace door. I had to wear my jacket and dine like that. To be honest, first dinner in Istanbul trip was a bit disappointing customer service.
We have selected 2 of the reserve wine tastings which included the Syrah, Merlot and Cab Sav. It would be better if they at least included the age of the wine either on the tasting menu or when they brought to the table. I don't know how it works in Turkey but when you order a wine tasting in overseas, server or wine connoisseur would explain the characteristics of the wine so google wouldn't be needed. Also, you need to try them from soft to full body so that your taste palette is not overpowered by a full body from the beginning. However, that information wasn't given as well. Reserve Merlot was medium body and easy to drink. Tasted more like you can have with your meal on a casual day, didn't really have the characteristics or the taste of a reserve wine. I assume it is from a recent year. Reserve Syrah was tasty. Wines didn't disappoint as usual.
Ordered 3 cheeses and 3 entrées to start with. Cheeses were tasty, but presentation could be worked on. Deconstructed stuffed calamari was really tasty. Beetroot with cheese was OK, more like a small salad. Artichoke was tasty but could have been cooked better.
We asked for the bill with half of the food eaten. When the waiter asked me whether everything is OK, I told him we didn't want to sit and finish and get sick the next day due to windy environment. He apologized and offered to look for another table, which we asked 30 minutes ago, where the host in black was arranging. Waiter had a quick chat with the senior, which seemed like he didn't care. Don't get me wrong, I was not expecting anything but an apology at that time would be good or "Sorry we do not have empty table for you to move" so that we wouldn't start ordering meals or ask them to cancel.
Overall, wine was tasty, some entrées were excellent, some were average. Didn't get the chance to try mains. Customer service needs to be worked on. Will I continue to buy their wine? Possibly yes. Will I choose to dine or recommend? Probably, no. Price was it is OK compared to overseas restaurants 3 entrées, 3 cheese, 2 wine tasting and water cost around 593 liras. As we were leaving, the host was too busy to take Instagram photos. Before promoting a place, it is important to upskill the...
Read moreNice and elegant restaurant for wine and dine. I go there usually since last 4 years, I think portion size is small except the pizza menu. I would suggest to have wine platter, pizza and select one of Suvla wine in this restaurant. Good for big groups and work dinners. Location is just great. Roof floor of Kanyon Shopping Center, you need to take the elevator from the cinema floor. Suvla serves obviously wine selection of Suvla wines, both table wine and reserve wines are available. Although Suvla wines can be found less than half of the serving price in supermarkets, you may want to have a nice dinner experience in the restaurant. I guess the restaurant didnt change its menu and style since its opening. I went there quite often and started to feel bored and would be happy if restaurant try...
Read moreSuvla offers some of the most authentic menu in town. Based on recommendation, we ordered the 4 cheese pizza which was phenomenal. Eceabat kofte (meatballs) was like wow! I’ve never had meatballs like that in my life before. The amount of spice as well as choice of meat is excellent.
Last but not least the creme brûlée is the one that will make us go back to Suvla. The melted chocolate layer on the bottom was unbelievable.
As of wine, I strongly recommend ordering the Suvla 2012. The grapes from that year are excellent so it gives an unique taste to the red wine.
I highly advise you on making a reservation at least 3 days in advance. Suvla is absolutely a best place for...
