Köşebaşı Levent — Restaurant in Beşiktaş

Probably the best place you can go for Turkish food anywhere. Not sure how easily tourists can find out about this place (location is a nice neighborhood but not a tourist hotspot), but I strongly suggest anyone visiting Istanbul or even Turkey in general goes here at least once to experience authentic Turkish food and hospitality.

Food is of the highest quality, service is friendly and very attentive, atmosphere is ideal. Menu and mezes are varied so I would recommend taking your time looking at the menu in English and getting a full overview.

I had a look at the low ratings here and they mostly seem to be about delivery issues or not understanding the “kuver” system which is the small per person cost covering things like the unlimited supply of bottled water (since tap water isn’t consumed in the country). If you get multiple mezes then that will also obviously add up...

Food was tasty, but... No English menu and an intrusive waiter who doesn't understand when asked to give him time to choose. Stuff forgot about our drinks and almost forgot about dessert. Food is overpriced ~1.5x from normal Istanbull prices and dishes are really small. They tried to charge us additionally for water and starters which we didn't eat. Köşebaşı bir süredir vegan seçenekler sunuyor. Vegan lahmacun, pide ve kebap opsiyonları var.

Sipariş olarak vegan lahmacun, isotlu vegan lahmacun ve vegan satır kebap söyledik. Salata olarak gavurdağ ve toros yanında közlenmiş soğan istedik.

Lahmacunlarda en son yediğimizin gerisinde bir lezzetle karşılaştım. Sanki dondurumuş ürün fırınlanıp getirilmiş gibiydi. Lezzet geriye gitmiş gibi, yine de bir tercih yapacak olursam isotlu lahmacunu tercih ederim.

Vegan satır kebap lezzetliydi.

Toros salatası yeşil otların baskın olduğu bir salata, ferah bir tadı var beğendik. Gavurdağ da beklenilen düzeydeydi. Közde soğanın servis süresi uzun olduğu için yemeğin sonlarına doğru gelmesi de hatalı. Sosu ve pişme derecesi güzel.

Servis bana kalırsa İstanbul seviyesine göre iyi denebilir. Ancak mekan bomboş olmasına rağmen küçük bir masa gösterilmesi büyük bir servis zaafiyeti. Küçücük masaya sipariş ettiklerimizin sığmaması, ne diyeceğimi bilemiyorum. Böyle şeylerle uğraşmak yoruyor.

Veganlar için vegan ekmek opsiyonu sunulması da güzel. Ayrıca sürdürülebilirlik politikaları, kadın üreticileri ve kooperatifleri desteklemeleri konusunda adımları örnek teşkil etmeli.
