This was the 6th day that we are in Turkey, the 1st five days in Istanbul and the 1st day in western Turkey. I am somewhat a foodie and Turkey food in general is good tasting but lacking in variety. Grilled kabobs and wraps all tasted the same after a while. I was thinking about taking the family to get a few wraps in one of the stalls for dinner and call it a night. So when the Suktan Bahce popped up on my Google research, I was a bit surprised to find the best rated restaurant in Bodrum so close to my hotel so I took a plunge. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the owner Maz. He was friendly and very hospitable. Of course he recommended more expensive options such as a meat platter but we told him that we couldn’t finish such a big course. He never pushed again. We had grilled octopus as a starter, a steak, pasta and chicken kabobs. On the house was the ballon bread with various hamas tips. The bread was an immediate hit. The grill octopus was the best we have ever had. After grilling, it was placed in garlic olive oil sauce. The pasta was cooked to perfection- al dente. The chicken kabobs were juicy and the steak was a bit over cooked (my son asked for medium rare but it was probably medium to medium well done) but very tender so we didn’t ask the steak to be sent back. Maz also offered us tea on the house. When I complemented Maz about the octopus, he told me the next time i come back and order the octopus he would double size the dish for me. How sweet! Came here while in Bodrum based on great Google reviews and I'm glad we did. The seating is outdoor under trees with a big bird cage in the middle, very beautiful and welcoming. The service was just excellent, the owner of the restaurant greeted us and also took our order. He told us that his family owns the restaurant and it's been open for 20 years. He told us that they cook their food like they cook food at home. He was very very nice and spoke really good English and explained all the fish dishes of the day. Okay now for the food. This is what we ordered : small mezze plate with fresh bread ( so good and the bread comes out of the oven so tasty) Lahmucun ( so thin and the flavors are so so good) Grilled chicken wings ( so yummy) Half of grouper fish, grilled ( the star of the show) Grilled lobster tails ( really really tasty) Grilled red mullet and blue lobsters ( the fish were so yummy but the blue crabs usually come small and they're hard to eat but the flavor was good) Lamb shish ( so tender and flavorful) For dessert we got the baklava with ice cream and what a treat. This is truly a magnificent outdoor restaurant that's off the beaten path (you can take a leisurely 200m walk out of town for it), with wonderful service to match.

They put so much effort into every little part of the dining experience, for the kids and adults - like little birthday gifts and special servings for visiting birthday guests like I was!

The family restaurant is the perfect find for those looking to dine like a local - with the restaurant's menu designed for local tastes, with amazing flavours.

I highly recommend the Salt-crusted Groupers fish, and the platter of Mezze's, as well as all the starters. These were particularly outstanding!

Enjoy the likes of grilled calamari too, to deep-fried prawns, puff breads, and so much more, without regrets!

The drinks are refreshing and varying, from good beers to wines, and whiskies.

Choosing this restaurant means a break from the tourist-heavy hoards and getting a quality experience in relative peace.
