Our family went to T&C for 1 week vaca. Keep in mind, I don't like leaving bad reviews. We went to different restaurants (almost) every day as per recs from various people. Bella Luna on Monday, The Farm on Tuesday, Mango Reef (Wednesday), the Fish Fry (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED fair type environment with live music, food trucks etc on Thursday), and Opus (Friday).
Cannot tell you how overrated this place is (once again, I don't like leaving bad reviews unless it's warranted... And this was). Keep in mind, it's a Friday night (not some random mid week).
On entry, our table was very wobbly. Meh.. No big deal. It happens. They gave us a different table. They brought (stale?) bread for table. No silverware or dishes. OK. Fine. Then comes the menu... Once again, it's a FRIDAY NIGHT.
Wife orders Seared Tuna. Not available due to bad weather earlier today. OK. Understood. Lobster? Nope! Umm... How about the Ceviche? Not available either! Are you kidding me!? It's FRIDAY night. Due to bad weather. But my daughter ordered salmon which was there. Um OK?? (but isn't that seafood also, but I digress cuz wait... There's more!)
We literally asked for water 5 TIMES! Yes... 5 times! Food comes... It was average at best. I ordered lamb (well... Cuz there's no lobster) done medium. Comes medium rare. OK fine. Side of mashed potatoes should be more labeled as tablespoons of mashed potatoes. But hey... Atleast there's FOOD! Wife orders Barrata, which was very good! Daughter's salmon wasn't bad. The jerk chicken was OK (not dry per previous review but seasoning was off for sure). Side of rice was ok.
Wife ordered glass of malbec. We LITERALLY had to ask 3 TIMES for the glass of wine to arrive (after a while and out of curiosity, I checked my watch... The glass of red wine took 24 minutes...who knows... Maybe they were crushing the grapes in the back).
For dessert, wife orders Coconut Caramel. They don't have it. OH MY GOD! So now, ( keep in mind, Friday night) they don't have lobster, tuna, ceviche OR dessert...WOW! SIMPLY WOW! Anyway... Ordered the Opera chocolate cake...took 20 minutes... Maybe they are making it... Nope... It's literally just cake... Store bought stale cake. I'm SO NOT KIDDING!
At this point, we just want to go back to our hotel and forget this HORRIBLE experience. So we asked for a to go container...umm...yeah...had to ask for it TWICE... after 10 minutes, we just asked another server if we can just get the to go container so we can GLADLY LEAVE!
Total bill ALREADY included 15% tip. I'm glad it did for their benefit.
Overall, TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE experience! BY FAR AND AWAY, the BEST experience and food was the Farm. Will be leaving a review for them soon after I need to cool off from this...
Read moreOn our last night in Turks and Caicos, my friend and I decided to go for a nice dinner at Opus. We received a recommendation from our taxi driver as a must in Provincidelas and thought it would be a great treat. We were NOT disappointed. Opus was amazing. First, the ambience is incredible. It’s not on the beach, but they have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is lit by candles and some lights, but its definitely a romantic spot if that is what you are looking for. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant manager came by our table multiple times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves (we were). The waiter never had to be called over and struck up great conversations with us. As for the meal, we were delightfully surprised. Sometimes restaurants in touristy areas are not great or good, the food at Opus was amazing. I had the shrimp penne past with wine and garlic sauce. It was a hefty bowl with lots of shrimp. Sometimes I worry that there won’t be enough shrimp or pasta. This was not the case. The sauce was extremely flavorful and I couldn’t stop eating it (I was very full). My friend ordered the fresh grouper. Fresh is an understatement. The fish tasted like they had just caught it. According to the waiter, the fish man was still in the back unloading his catches of the day. We also had a delicious but reasonably priced bottle of wine and the apple tart. The apple tart was warm and had ice cream on top which was a nice treat to finish off this meal. I would definitely go back to this restaurant when I come back to Turks and Caicos....
Read moreWe arrived for an 8:00 p.m. reservation and were not presented with any food until about 9:15 p.m. In the interim we were served drinks and given two small pieces of bread. There was a family at a nearby table celebrating an engagement, congrats to them, but they were definitely reaching an alcoholic cut-off point and even announced to everyone that they were sorry for being obnoxiously loud. Servers were kind but definitely move on island time here, slowest service I've had on the island in my 4 days here so far. The servers also kept asking us to repeat our orders a few times after having left for a while. We waited about 30 minutes just to get the check and a to-go box which wasn't a box at all but rather everything wrapped in aluminum.
I ordered the bone-in ribeye steak medium well, but when it arrived it was dry and well done. Not sure if this was because of the delay to bring it to my table but very disappointed by the steak itself. The sauces given alongside the salmon (my wife's order) and the steak were delicious and helped carry it. We skipped appetizers because we weren't super hungry. We skipped dessert for fear of that taking...
