I cannot believe that I've wasted money before going to beaches Turks and Caicos and Windsong reef resort. Both places are very expensive, especially beaches. The personal service and intimate surroundings of Royal West Indies put all the others to shame. Royal West Indies resort is the crème de la crème.
The royalty service that you receive once you enter their property and come into the lobby and greeted with a cold towel and greeted with a nice fruit punch is just unbelievable. Top top star service. So nice and kind and welcoming and inviting. I felt like I was an owner of the place. Everybody is so friendly. So helpful. Kendri did the best thoughtful tour of the facility. I could've used one of the bicycles to ride around the nearby places on the island, but I walked a couple places and I had a personal driver take me around. They can actually call a taxi for you. Basically it's like you get free concierge service. They give you recommendations of where to go eat. You get such a exclusive tour of the resort. It's right on the beach. The restaurant food is delicious. The bartenders make the best drinks on the island. I have not had good drinks as good as what I've had at the resort. The guys at the beach are phenomenal. Your towels are always clean and rolled up and ready for you just to grab one. You don't have to give a towel card and you don't get interrogated about getting a towel like some resorts do. And you just dump it in the hamper when you're leaving the beach. This beach is clean and beautiful. My room was so wonderful and it had a little kitchen in there so I could always bring home leftover food from the Restaurants and put it in the fridge and warm it up for the next day. The only thing that may or may not have been a problem for some people is that they no longer serve breakfast. I don't know the reason, but the restaurant is open at 12. So if you're an early riser and you're looking for some breakfast, you can get coffee And your room is stacked with tea and coffee, but you cannot get breakfast unless you go on your own to one of the nearby places. I went to the resort next-door. The oasis. Boy oh boy. This is an appropriate name. It was an oasis. A heaven on earth. Best breakfast ever best service. Beautiful grounds. I even had one of the guys driving thetrolley/golf cart. Pick me up from the restaurant to take me back next-door to my resort. Five star service. The only criticism I could find about this place and I had to think very hard and look for something so that I could be an objective reviewer. Is that their little curtains in the room. The white ones that are kind of share could be washed. I guess they might've gotten wet with the rain and maybe a part of it was hanging out of the glass and you could see a little teeny bit of mildew/mold on the bottom of the Curtains. I think if they would wash those curtains or just replace them, ensuring that none of the other rooms have this issue, I would say that it would be a perfect 10 out of 10. Again, it's not very noticeable. I actually had to look very hard and I'm just OCD and a clean freak, but other than that, the places Spic and span clean. I'm not joking probably the cleanest place I've ever been. I'm just the kind of person that looks for lizards and looks for ants and stuff like that and I just happened to stumble across a little part of that bottom of the curtain that look like it had gotten wet. Other than that, this place is perfect and I would return here again and recommend everybody. When I get my bonus, I'm sending my daughter and her husband and baby. I want them to experience some of this royalty service. This place is so relaxing and time just seems to stand still. Royal West Indies is Turks and Caicos best...
Read moreIf I could give this place a negative star, I would. I stayed here March 15th through March21, 2018, and had the worst experience that I have ever had in the Caribbean.
I arrived from NYC at 1:00 p.m. and was told that since check-in is at 3:00, my room wasn’t ready. I was offered a drink of canned juice in a plastic cup, and told to wait at the restaurant (the lobby has one chair that was occupied). I wasn’t hungry and didn’t want to sit at an establishment where I wasn’t ordering anything. So, I went to the pool area. The chaise cushions are filthy, stained with sun lotion and God knows what else. Also, at that time of day, there was little shade. So, I sat on the ground under a gazebo and waited. After an hour and a half, at 2:30, I went back to the front desk. Still, the room wasn’t ready. The woman kept parroting that check-in was at 3:00. So, the fact that the guest had already arrived, had been traveling since 6:00 a.m., and had waited for an hour and a half, didn’t make any difference to this hospitality establishment. It certainly didn’t make cleaning that particular room a priority. I waited in the lobby an additional 15 minutes. Finally, the woman at the front desk deigned to check me in and give me a room key. The porter arrived and we started our trek to the room. The key he used didn’t work at the first door. He tried a second room; again, the key didn’t work. He tried a third room, and when the key didn’t work again, got a member of the housekeeping staff to open the door to a room that was already occupied with the guests inside. At that point, I asked him to re-check the correct room number with the front desk. Since walkie-talkies or cell phones don’t seem to be for these kinds of situations, I waited again with my suitcase while he went back to the reception. He returned, seemingly clarified. He opened the door to a room on the ground floor. I had paid for a room with an ocean view. This room faced the ocean, but since it was on the first floor, it actually looked out on the hotel property and the curtain would have to be always drawn as other guests routinely walked by. They tried to claim that the room had an ocean view because it faced the ocean. The only people on earth more dishonest about views are NYC real estate brokers. That was when I was going to ask for my money back and leave the hotel. They gave me a room with a distant view of the ocean.
Later that day, when I ordered a drink at the bar, I was told that the only thing made with fresh ingredients is the lemonade. I asked for a shot of gin in it, and paid $8 for an overly sweet, weak drink. The second day, when I ordered the drink, I asked for very little sugar. I was given a nice drink, this time for $9.76, and figured the extra must have been for the slice of orange I asked the waiter to put in. The next time, I ordered the same drink, the waiter tried to charge me $12.20. Upon protest, I was told the lesser price had been a mistake. But he did correct the bill. Still, the experience created a feeling of distrust. If you aren’t aware, they will cheat you.
This hotel gives you far from the royal treatment. It isn’t really a hotel. It’s a time-share place that rents owner units when the owners aren’t using them. There is no hospitality here; no imagination, and no taking care of their guests. For $400 a night, one has a right to expect a little more service. I highly recommend staying away. If you go, keep your expectations very low, and be prepared to be used as the ugly North American with a wad of cash. NYC gets a bad rap for being expensive, but for that money, you can get a great room with a ton of services and amenities such as free wifi, complimentary bottled water, black-out shades, and certainly...
Read moreI had high expectations for Royal West Indies Resort, but unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing due to the lack of hospitality and professionalism from the staff. Aside from the receptionist at the front desk working the evening shift—who was the only friendly and competent staff member—the rest of the employees showed little to no interest in providing good service.
The room itself was ok, a little outdatted, with a super loud fridge that was disturbing at night. We would have been ok with the room and would have left a good review if the staff was nice, attentive, and welcoming, but they were not !!
Throughout our stay, we noticed that staff members would often be on their phones, ignoring guests as they passed by without any acknowledgment. The beach staff, in particular, were unfriendly. One morning, I was quietly reading on a beach chair when an employee, who was placing umbrellas on the chairs, dropped an umbrella directly onto the chair I was sitting on—without a word, as if I wasn’t even there. No apology, no regard for guest comfort.
The attitude of the staff continued to be indifferent and grumpy throughout our stay. At their garden restaurant, we experienced multiple instances of poor service. One evening, we had dinner at a particular table with no issue. A few mornings later, we sat at the same table for coffee, and despite staff standing right there, no one attended to us. When we asked for coffee, we were rudely told that they couldn't serve us at that table and that we needed to move—just six feet away—to another table for no apparent reason. It felt like an unnecessary and insulting inconvenience.
Another evening, when we tried to dine at the same restaurant, we were given the least desirable table near the entrance, even though multiple other tables were available. We were told they were "reserved," yet, from our room overlooking the restaurant, we saw that those tables remained empty for the rest of the night. This behavior felt dismissive and unwelcoming. Also, the food was overpriced and not very good. Very basic and lacked flavor, culinary flare, and refinement.
What stood out the most was the complete absence of upper management. In an entire week, we never saw any supervisor or manager ensuring things were running smoothly, which likely explains the staff’s lack of hospitality and professionalism.
The final straw was the taxi service arranged by the resort for our airport transfer. The driver, from Sonny’s Cab, informed us that he needed to pick up another passenger along the way, which was fine. However, he then proceeded to drive recklessly. When I politely asked if he could slow down a bit, he snapped at us, yelling and being outright rude and aggressive. His reaction was alarming, and we did not feel safe during the ride.
Overall, the staff at Royal West Indies Resort seemed to have an attitude of resentment towards guests rather than providing even basic hospitality. For the premium price of staying here, the experience was unacceptable. I would strongly advise against booking this resort, and based on my overall experience, I have no plans to ever return to the Turks and Caicos Islands. There are many much better destinations in the Caribbean where you are valued and will get treated with respect and...
