this restaurant needs to hire a better chef. i ordered the white mushroom soup, but it SO VERY thin. literally 2 noodles in the whole thing, a pinch of shredded carrot, and THAT'S IT. they basically charge you for a large bowl of broth. i ordered the potato pancakes (extra crunchy), but they were a soft, under-cooked puddle of grease that made me feel sick. these potatoes were clearly not properly wrung out or seasoned. also, the frying oil was most likely not to temperature. chef is unqualified, can't cook. i figured that can't be right but when i mentioned it to the waiter he only offered nothing but excuses. soup is vegetarian, potatoes weren't ready, etc. shameful.
something peculiar struck me, and i want to share it here. when i investigated the raving reviews on other sites (won't mention then here), i noticed they were all from incentivized accounts. this place is done up rather touristy (which in and of itself is fine), but when the quality is this poor and the service is so questionable, it casts a strong shadow of doubt upon the honesty/trustworthiness of the establishment. i cannot give this restaurant my...
Read moreThis restaurant is one of our favorites in Kyiv, cause you are able to taste delicious Ukrainian food being dressed up in tradional Ukrainian festive clothing, such as "jupan" (jacket with embroidery) for men and "vinok" (flower crown) for women. Due to number of traditional dishes we ordered, our table covered almost half of all Ukrainian cuisine: "borshch" or traditional Ukrainian soup; "deruny" or potato pancakes; "vareniki" which are basically like ravioli, that can be filled with different stuff, like meat, mushrooms, all kind of berries, but the most often with cherries, blueberries or strawberries … So vareniki can be either salty, or sweet, thus taken as a main dish or as a desert too; “zrazy” or potato pancake filled with baked cabbige, mushrooms and/or meat; "carp", a fish that is very known in Ukrainian rivers and lakes; “oseledets” or salty herring, combined with mild touch of creamy potatos.. Mmmmmm, couldn’t be a better choice! The restaurant has a medium level of ACCESSIBILITY since there are 2 steps of stairs to get to the terrace and inside of the restaurant. But once you are there, it has enough accessible...
Read more5 years ago I came in looking for a traditional Ukrainian meal, and boy did I find it. I had such a great time that when I returned earlier this week I sought it out. I was so happy to know they were still open. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Immediately upon entering, they showed me where I could leave my coat. I thought that was a nice touch for a sit-down restaurant. It was great that the menu was also in English to help me. I ordered the sausage with some old-fashioned fries. It was really tasty and went well with the sauce that was on the side. The juice was natural, and was very refreshing. As for the vodka, it was strong, and worked well as a digestive. Upon having a wonderful meal, my only downside was that they didn’t accept card. As it was cash only, I had to rely on a friend who I was with to cover the tab. I would strongly recommend this place for none looking for an over-the-top Ukrainian place to vibe at. Just remember to bring cash. Though the prices are very reasonable, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t have too much...
