I really thought about wether or not to review this place but I feel it’s necessary. I didn’t want to give 1 Star initially so I called the restaurant to speak to a manager or owner. I was told that they were not available. 4 days ago my husband who is American/white went to pick up food for us that I ordered on the phone, 4 different dishes. We ordered the lamb Tibs milde and spicy, and Fitfit. They gave us food that was not freshly prepared and different dishes than what we ordered. When I called they lied about it because they thought I didn’t know what the order was so I called her out. She then told me she was sorry and that they prepared the food before hand and not fresh. 140 aed Plus a very generous tip. All she said is we will give you food for free next time, but I don’t want free food. I just want what we ordered and for it to be prepared fresh when we order it. My kids and husband didn’t like it and sadly we just through it away. Its bad business and sad when people from other countries or cultures want to eat our food yet you give them what ever didn’t sale because you hope they don’t know the difference. I’m really upset but I hope this review reaches the owner and other people who want to try this restaurant. We won’t be...
Read moreAs someone who has lived in Africa, I was excited to indulge in the familiar flavors of Ethiopian cuisine at Bonna Anne. Unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The Tibs, a staple dish, and all time favourite, was over-salted and almost burnt and dry, lacking the rich, savory flavors I've grown to love.
The Kekel, a lamb stew, was overwhelmed by injera, making it feel like a bread-based soup rather than a hearty, flavorful dish. The meat portions were small, leaving me unsatisfied.
I was looking forward to the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony for myself and my friend, but unfortunately, we only received a cup of coffee without the customary ritual. It was a missed opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage of Ethiopia.
The service was good, with friendly staff, but the inconvenience of having to exit the restaurant to access the toilet was a significant drawback.
For someone who has lived in Africa, Bonna Anne's subpar food quality, incomplete cultural experience, and inconvenient amenities were a disappointment. With some improvements to their cooking techniques, cultural offerings, and facilities, they may be able to better serve their customers. Until then, I can only give...
Read moreEthiopian is one of top three of my favorite international cuisines. Any place I go to if there is an Ethiopian restaurant within 50 miles of where I am staying I would go out and have a bite. Take that into consideration when I say this is one of the best Ethiopian food I have had.
I haven't had the pleasure of enjoying Ethiopian cuisine in Ethiopia but Bonne Anne came closest to an award winning Ethiopian restaurant I have had dinner in DC which is a favorite haunt of Clinton's and many U.S. senators. Now I haven't yet worked my way down their menu but the non-veg platter was simply amazing and that is always a good way to assess the authenticity. The Ethiopian coffee was amazing and the number of Ethiopian nationals vouch for the restaurants. I was surprised not to see any diners from India as Ethiopian is invariably a hit any Indian friend I have persuaded to go as the flavors are very close to Indian cuisine. They use almost the same ingredients and same spiceds with a different touch which makes it stand out. Simply outstanding and a must visit. My only wish list item is that, the interior is slightly brighter, only because I like to...
