Japanese restaurants have become what Italian restaurants once were—the go-to option when you're not quite sure what you're in the mood for. They're everywhere, from boutique city corners to plush hotel dining rooms, and always seem like a safe bet when the indecision kicks in. NIRI in Abu Dhabi is no different, except that it somehow manages to stand out. It's fun, it’s busy, and there’s a palpable sense of energy that makes you feel like something important is happening at every table. The cocktails—thankfully not just the token sake or yuzu martini—are inventive and pack a punch, without that pretentious mixology nonsense. The service is brisk, almost to the point of precision, yet there’s still a warmth to it. The menu? Interesting enough to make you do that thing where you nod along while thinking, *Right, let’s see what that actually looks like when it arrives.* And when it does, it mostly delivers. The softshell crab, in particular, was a standout—a crisp, briny hit that might make you question whether ordering another plate would be overkill. But here’s the kicker: NIRI was full. And in a city where new restaurants crop up like skyscrapers, that’s saying something. Sure, you can check the Google reviews, but the real sign of a place worth visiting is how hard it is to find a seat. So if you're in Abu Dhabi, NIRI is a must. Even if you're not, it might just be reason enough to book a trip.

Pros: • Flawless Food: The quality of the dishes at Niri Restaurant was exceptional. Every dish, from the freshest sushi to the perfectly cooked main courses, was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Each bite was a testament to authentic Japanese culinary artistry. • Pleasant and Efficient Service: The staff were not only welcoming but also highly efficient. Orders were taken and served promptly, enhancing the overall dining experience without making it feel rushed. • Great Atmosphere: The ambiance was further elevated by a well-curated soundtrack that added to the restaurant’s cozy and inviting atmosphere. It felt like a perfect blend of modern and traditional Japanese influences, setting the right mood for a memorable meal. Cons: • Relatively Expensive: Dining at Niri can be on the pricier side, but unlike some other Japanese restaurants in Abu Dhabi, the cost seemed justified. The focus here was clearly on delivering quality food rather than an overly extravagant decor. Overall: Niri Restaurant offers an outstanding Japanese dining experience with its impeccable food, excellent service, and pleasant ambiance. While the prices may be high, the quality on the plate makes it worth considering for those seeking an authentic and upscale meal in Abu Dhabi.

Nice new Japanese restaurant on Mamsha Saadiyat promenade, in a lively neiborhood. Expensive, as expected. But beautiful and interesting. Raw fish is excellent, and they claim some of the fish comes from Japan. I don't doubt it, ad there are species that I never heard of. The sushi chef is working in front of you and it's a nice experience, although maybe a bit noisy, to sit right there. The yakitori skewers are very good too. And the whole grilling there is managed very well (I sat at said sushi counter and watched the show all throughout my dinner). It was recommended to me to try the lobster, the mushrooms in a pot and the maki. I was disappointed by the lobster, a bit tough and not flavourful, and I enjoyed the mushrooms. I could try the maki, and it will be for next time. Dessert was OK, at least for what I tasted (the cheesecake). It can be noisy and there can be plenty of people, especially with the hype now. But it's in a beautiful location and had outdoor seats, which makes it very enjoyable. I will come back. ------------ I came back. I enjoyed more sashimi and sushi, and wagyu beef and also mushrooms again, some of the dishes in the lunch menu, and wagyu nigiri. All is amazing here, and I still recommend Niri as the best sushi in town. Cheers!

I've visited this restaurant numerous times, experiencing their offerings for lunch, dinner, and even during in-between hours. Each visit allowed me to explore a wide array of dishes spanning almost entire menu—from tantalizing appetizers to decadent desserts. The food quality has consistently been high, complemented by attentive service and inviting ambiance. Need to point out that their robatayaki dishes stand out, delivering rich flavors and perfect grilling every time, never leaving me disappointed. Despite these positive aspects, there have been some challenges with visitation, especially during peak hours. On several occasions, I attempted to dine without a reservation. This often resulted in being turned away, as no tables were available (definitely my fault). However, the hostess sometimes conveyed a subtle, unwelcoming vibe, as if it were obvious that one should not arrive without a prior booking -- you should know better vibe. Such experiences have occasionally driven me to explore other dining options in the vicinity.

Hit or miss depending on the dish. For starters, the location is absolutely breathtaking - the beach is pristine and the view looking out makes the entire meal. The gyoza was absolutely delicious, in fact perfect (10/10), the Spinach Nasu Goma was bursting with delicate flavors and layers of perfect textures (10/10), Shrimp Tempura was good, well coated, not over fried (9/10), Ika Karaage was also really good - not too chewy, served right on time (9/10). The chicken wings had very thick, chewy skin… I took a bite and wouldn’t recommend ordering them (1/10), the sushi was standard and nothing I would specifically go to NIRI to order. The ambiance was amazing, Abu Dhabi was missing a vibe like NIRI’s - almost big city, small neighborhood type of vibe. The service was fine, order was taken, food arrived on time. Nothing to elaborate on. A nice place for a group of friends to gather or a couple to go for a weeknight dinner.
