With its reputation for premium cuts and a focus on steakhouse dining, The Butcher Shop and Grill seemed a natural choice for a long-anticipated visit. Sadly, the reality did not live up to the promise.

A 400g sirloin, requested medium, arrived overly thick and consequently resistant to the knife — and the jaw. The chewiness detracted from any potential succulence the cut might have offered. Accompaniments included a side salad and fries; the latter, unfortunately, were poorly executed on the first attempt and had to be sent back. Their replacement arrived only once the steak was halfway consumed — an ill-timed service misstep — and could not redeem the overall plate.

Portions are generous enough, but service lacked attentiveness and finesse. Of particular note, a pass-through station appeared staffed with someone tasked with overseeing plating standards, yet my dish reached the table in an uninspired and careless presentation — a surprising oversight for a restaurant positioning itself as a meat specialist.
