Hyu Korean Restaurant — Restaurant in Dubai

Just like the slogan/tagline of the restaurant, the food is indeed Healthy,Authentic and Tasty. For a complete authentic Korean cuisine,one has to definitely visit this place. An interesting fact about Korean cuisine is that a traditional meal includes dishes in five different colors which is nutritionally balanced in terms of color,texture and flavors. As a newbie to Korean food, we were a little skeptical or may be confused on what to order. Thanks to the manager of the restaurant who personally asked about our taste and initially we weren't quiet confident to go ahead to be honest. But as the food arrived and as we tasted everything one after the other; the food just exceeded our expectations. Brilliant food!! We never thought that we would enjoy Korean food to this extend. For starters, we had Dakgangjeong. It is crispy popcorn chicken with sweet and spicy sauce. It's served with a variety of sauce said by side. This is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

For the rice, we again highly recommend Veg Bibimbab. What is something so unique about Korean cuisine is that it's so simple yet delicious. The name by itself Bibimbab literally means "mixed rice". It is served as a bowl of white rice topped with sautéed and seasoned vegetables (they are all imported from Korea),chili pepper paste,soy sauce,soy bean paste and a raw egg/fried egg is topped. This hot dish is thoroughly stirred together just before eating. We would love to have this on a daily basis as it's so healthy and tasty as well. We are not exaggerating here.

Yangnyumgalbi is basically Marinated BBQ short rib. The meat pieces are served raw and then cooked on tabletop grills as per your liking. The ribs are marinated in a sweet and savory sauce which makes it very juicy and the flavor is felt in every bite. This is again served with various sauce and one can dip the meat pieces in the sauce and have them all by yourself 😍 One can't go wrong with this!!

There are not that many Korean restaurants in Dubai and Hyu is residing in JLT, where there is no competition. Usually, this means that the restaurant can slack on the quality but I found the food served here is as good as any of the Korean restaurants that I have visited.

Where I was disappointed in were there drinks, surely they can make a few home made drinks, but instead, everything was served out of a can, that was highly disappointing. There is no need for me to go and spend 2-3 times for what I can essentially buy in the store.

Hyu scores most of the points with the food. The marination was fantastic, sauces are tasty and if you are not sure how to cook the food properly on the grill, the owner is eager to show you how it is done. At the same time, this is a downfall because the owner is walking in and out of the kitchen wearing street clothes and slippers, not exactly the most hygienic. This can happen when the owners either find it difficult to let go of the restaurant's operations or eager to please. Either way, they should stay out of the kitchen.

Prices are reasonable and the portions are fair for what you, pay, why not visit Hyu...

The Yangnyum Galbi (Marinated Beef BBQ) is definitely the best dish in this Korean Restaurant!

The beef was juicy and perfectly marinated for 24 hours - one order is good for two to three people and if you're hungry like us you'd ask for another! The team will cook it for you and cut it into strips so you can easily eat it too.

We also ordered the Dakgangjun (Crispy Marinated Chicken) for our appetizers and it was really crispy and we loved the marinate! The Ttukbokki was cooked really well - the rice cakes weren't too hard or too chewy and you have the option to have it spicy or medium heat. We really enjoyed the Beef Japchae (Stir Fries Glass Noodles) too - so much that we ordered another one! you could also ask them to serve it with less vegetables if you're picky.

Lastly for dessert they have the Melona Korean Ice Cream Bar - it was the perfect way to end the meal! I highly recommend this place - it gets busy later at night so make sure you book in advance.

I'd give this a six stars if i could if it was licensed and i could have a glass of beer or soju...
