Taqueria Freeda in Jumeirah 3 isn't just another addition to Dubai's ever-expanding culinary landscape; it's a vibrant, unapologetically authentic slice of Mexico that has quickly captured the hearts (and stomachs) of those who truly appreciate the nuances of real Mexican street food. Stepping inside is a welcome departure from the city's often-polished establishments. The funky, art-adorned walls and the intimate setting create a genuine taqueria vibe, a space where the focus is squarely on the food and the experience. While the number of tables might be limited, the consistent stream of enthusiastic diners is a testament to the fact that any potential wait is absolutely worth it. This isn't just hype; it's a genuine appreciation for the bold flavours and unpretentious charm that Taqueria Freeda exudes.
Chef Jorge Rodriguez is the undisputed heart and soul of this kitchen, a culinary artist whose passion for showcasing the true diversity of Mexican cuisine is evident in every meticulously crafted dish. His commitment to using locally sourced ingredients from UAE suppliers is commendable, adding a unique touch to time-honoured recipes. The Guacamole, a family heirloom prepared with charred jalapeños ground in a traditional molcajete, offers a smoky, layered depth that elevates this classic to new heights. The Coconut Ceviche, inspired by the coastal flavours of Acapulco, is a refreshing and zesty revelation, perfectly balancing fresh fish with creamy coconut and a subtle chilli kick. But the true stars of the show are undoubtedly the tacos. Each one, served on freshly pressed corn tortillas, is a regional exploration. The Birria Taco, with its slow-cooked brisket and short ribs practically melting in your mouth, is pure comfort food elevated. The Baja-Style Prawn Taco delivers a satisfying crunch and a burst of flavour from the lightly battered prawns and that addictive chipotle mayo. And the Chicken Pastor Taco achieves that perfect smoky-tangy balance that will have you craving another bite.
Beyond the exceptional savoury offerings, Taqueria Freeda's desserts are a delightful celebration of Mexico's sweet heritage. The freshly made churros, served with a rich chocolate sauce, are the perfect sweet ending, while the creamy Corn Flan offers a more traditional and comforting finale. The warm and efficient service, coupled with the vibrant atmosphere, makes Taqueria Freeda more than just a meal; it's an immersive experience. If you're seeking authentic, flavour-packed Mexican street food without any pretense, look no further. Taqueria Freeda is a true gem in Dubai's culinary scene, and a place I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who appreciates honest,...
Read moreI just had the best tacos in Dubai. No, I was not sponsored to say this.
THE authentic taqueria spot in Dubai. I passed by as a recommendation of a friend who’s VERY picky. He told me it was one of the best tacos he’s had in Dubai and I HAD to try it. I was at kite beach and got hungry and it was 10 minutes away so I walked there.
From the minute you walk in you’re welcomed by actually Mexican Chef Jorge & Chef Diego, who are professionally trained chefs who’ve been in living in Dubaj for years. They take you through the fact that all of their ingredients are locally sourced and their catch of the day ceviche is actually catch of the day. The warmth of the atmosphere of the place is so inviting. You can see everything being made in front of you and this comes to my main point, the tortillas. They were like a mother’s hug, it was that texture I knew I wanted but was never given by your usual Mexican spots here. Flavors are balanced, lime is FRESH so the acidity takes them to next level.
My recommendations are:
Shrimp taco: they use tamarind which takes the shrimp to another level. This is my favorite out of the two i tried, I have nothing else to say because it’ll speak for itself AND it comes in a set of 3
Birria taco: this isn’t your usually birria sauce soaked taco that strips all flavor from the meat, the meat is so flavorful and buttery. Pickled onions and avo sauce is a sickening addition to it. This time the tortilla is toasted which makes everything better.
Churros: equally crunchy on the outside as soft on the inside, it melts in your mouth, no I’m serious it actually does, and don’t even get me started on the chocolate that comes on the side
I genuinely think this is going to be the next Mexican IT spot so catch it while it’s new before...
