The Highlander Cafe Bus ®️ — Restaurant in Aberdeen City

We had driven up to Aberdeen on a customer delivery for the gallery and having a little spare time we did our usual trick of using Google to find a ‘cafe near me’.

This fabulous bus was one of the offerings on the Google list and seeing as we love something different it was an obvious choice!

The bus is fab! Bright red and hard to miss, parked right on the beachfront! It has an excellent menu and the prices are really reasonable!

We’d had no lunch having been driving all day, so we opted for the 6oz steak burger with a side of fries, it was excellent! Really tasty and proper skin-on fries too!

We had a coffee with milk and also a tea and the whole bill was just shy of £20 which we felt was good value!

You can get anything to take-away but we sat in and upstairs there are stools with a window view, or train-style sets of 4 bus seats with a table. They even had seatbelts still attached! All inside seating is upstairs so there are the traditional bus stairs to get up but the handrail is good and strong!

The views out to sea are fabulous. You can see the wind farm and all the big ships coming in to and leaving the port.

The view along the coast is very pretty and the promenade walk stretches quite a distance. Today was sunny and bright with a nice breeze and there were plenty of people but it still didn’t feel busy.

There are no toilets at the bus but if you walk along the road towards the lighthouse end then there is a big white building with good clean public toilets.

We really enjoyed our short visit to this part of Aberdeen, it felt very relaxed and not rushed and that’s exactly what you need from a short break on a long road-trip!

Awful customer service. Such a shame. An angry and aggressive staff member yelled at us, scared the children and told us to leave. Would not recommend for families, children or anyone with SEN needs. You will not receive a warm welcome here, avoid.

We placed our order and then went upstairs and sat down. There was an issue with our order, because they had ran out of hot chocolate. I believe this was his main issue, the other wasn't properly settled before we entered the bus, and this seemed to infuriate him. Even though it wasn't our fault they had run out of hot chocolate.

After we sat down, the man working in the kitchen came upstairs and yelled at us saying to stop annoying his customers, stay away from his customers and sit in silence! I pointed out that there were no other customers in the tables next to us, all of our group were sat in their seats. We were at the back of the bus and the only other people were at the front of the bus. He continued and yelled don't make any noise. I said they are children, he said you can leave. Very aggressive and angry raised voice. Horrific way to talk to anyone, let alone paying customers or a group of young children, who were very upset by the whole scene. The female staff member who took our order was lovely and looked embarrassed by her colleague, if we had only experienced her service, it would have been 5 star review however it was a shocking scene from a gentleman with anger management issues and is clearly in...

Food does the job nothing special but no complaints there, great atmosphere nice bus and nice views great place Service is terrible freezing cold conditions outside rain or storms and they still make you wait outside to read a menu then order before been aloud in the premises very strange way to work tried this place a few times after standing there for 15 minutes today with no one there then after I knocked they appear to then bee told we can’t sit inside at all that’s the final straw I won’t give this place a chance again there service is very poor very disappointing considering they have a nice van and spot to make things work they just don’t have the service. My belly is now full from the great service and better tasting food from the burger van down the bottom the girls have always been lovely and ready for your business.
