Brilliant place to visit with lots of fascinating exhibits.
Think there are issues with the way it is run though. Some of the exhibits seems to be poorly designed, most of the wheels in the knex racers can't be connected to the rods as there seems to be parts missing, been this way for many months, the timers often start but rarely stop. There is a wind turbine that you can fit knex blades onto and see how efficient it is, except the fit is so loose the blades don't stay where you put them making the exhibit almost pointless. Haven't seen the sheep actually pooping in years. The drilling through a rock exhibit, the drill bit is not connected to the shaft so it's a waste of time. I can understand that the fan generating the updraft for the paper helicopters needs a break, but why not have a visable countdown timer on it so you can see when it will function again. I could go on and on but I hope someone takes note of this. If anyone played with the exhibits the flaws would be obvious.
If there are none functioning exhibits, why not temporarily replace them with other exhibits, if it is a malfunctioning screen could still put another exhibit in front of it.
I think it is a shame how over priced the gift shop is, like the bottle rocket costing more than £20. There are lots of small things that could be sold that would be fun and educational but for pocket money cost.
The cost of the gift shop puts me off going as often as I otherwise would.
Cafe place wasn't great. Soup Luke warm, beans were served cold.
I love this place, I loved going when I was a kid, and now I love going and taking my kids, just want them to enjoy it as much as I did without being frustrated at things not making sense or not...
Read moreAs a Secondary Science Teacher, I’ve been to many Science centres/museums across the country and was very impressed with this one. Having changed the way we teach/language we use about Energy, I’ve been unimpressed with a number of them recently when they’re still using the wrong language that could confuse pupils - but not here!!! Very impressed. When I first walked in, I wondered if there would be enough for us to do. But Oh yes! We got there at 11 and left at closing at 4:30. My kids (10 and 15 and also having been to lots of Science centres) spent lots of time on lots of the different areas (and I even got a bit addicted to one of the games they had set up - downloaded and now playing at home!) and had a wonderful time. I could see that if it was really busy you might not get to go on lots of the bits and so find it not as good. They got to take part in an Engineering Hands On Workshop and a VR Headset session. We liked the ‘scienced up’ cafe and the food was good. We ended up getting three sets of coffee while we were there.. Overall, very impressed. The kids and I both said - shame there’s not one like this closer to home, as we’d be there...
Read moreWe took our two year old here. Everyone is super friendly and there are some interesting things to do. I found myself getting distracted by the exhibits myself.
There is a cafe on site, the menu has some weird combinations but I just wanted a cheese sandwich. Food was good, it could have been simpler to order.
Awesome place for kids, she really loved it. She is still talking about the robot that said her name and she wants to go back.
You will have your hands full if you bring a toddler, I guess that is true anywhere. Older kids will find things to do as well.
It isn't very well signposted but it is easy to get to using Google.
The only weird thing was the lift. It took me longer than I would care to admit how to work it. Floor 0 is the entrance level, floor 1 is about a foot above it and to move it you have to hold the button down the whole time.
I would strongly recommend this place. Even if you don't have kids it would be a fun hour or two near the beach.
Currently, during COVID, you have to book ahead. People are cleaning things constantly though so it was...
