The most expensive pint I have ever had!

BEWARE: This pub operates a parking scam for customers coming in for a drink.

I’ve just had to pay £170 parking charge and legal fees to a company they contract with.

I was a customer who popped in for a drink with my wife several years ago (05/05/2022) on a trip down to Lancing from Cambridge. I didn’t see any clear signage to say I had to pay or validate my parking - I had a blue disabled badge displayed clearly in my windscreen.

The company allegedly wrote to me but I had moved house and sold that car.

Last month (3 years after my visit) I receive da letter from a debt collection company who now threatened legal action IF I didn’t cough up £170!!! For what could only have been a £3-5 parking charge. I know the agency will have their extortionate charges on top but can see no justification for such an outrageous penalty.

I did challenge the charge and provided bank statements showing my payment to the pub on the date and time I was there. Unfortunately the debt collector was not interested. I have paid the fine under duress to avoid further penalty.

Needless to say I won’t ever return to this pub. I know the landlord, or brewery company won’t care a jot about this or my experience but I write to warn everybody planning to visit about this...

To be honest, as someone who lives in Brighton I have plenty of options that would probably fair better than whats on offer in Lancing; until now. I would call this pub more of a locals joint, where everyone knows everyone and the people there are out to meet all their mates. For pubs in this category there are few which fairs from the similarity of The Railway Inn. The door staff were friendly and not overpowering like they are in Brighton (mostly), with the drink and food prices being fairly reasonable. They had lovely homemade pizzas for £5 - £8 each and the £5 option was more than enough for yourself. Bar staff were easy going

The night we went* they had a deal or no deal event going on (yeah I wouldn't have thought so either), which to be honest was pretty entertaining. I now find myself wanting to go back just so I can win that 1p bar tab. The DJ was pretty good with figuring out the crowd and responding with wit at the given moment. Kick-out time was a bit argumentative but to be fair, it normally is anywhere you go and its probably because we were being slow.

Friendly pub Hosted my daughters 4th party here o Sunday afternoon and we had a wonderful time lovely clean pub Manager was so friendly and helpful and made us feel at ease as were the bar staff.
