I was quite disappointed with my stay here. ||I had done a lot of research into this hotel as my boyfriend (who's birthday it was) is a huge Harry Potter fan and we wanted to see the castle and I had read about the Harry Potter rooms the Dirty Bottles Hotel offers. ||I had paid the extra price for the "Superior" room, which the pictures looked incredible. This cost me £400.95 for two nights! I didn't mind paying as, as I mentioned, the pictures looked incredible. However, when we arrived, we had to wait 10 minutes to be served at the hotel check-in, despite staff just standing around. We were told to ring the bell, when we did no one came, we than rang it again, and when someone did come it was the same person that told us we needed to ring the bell...bit pointless. ||We then got shown to our room, and it was certainly not the room advertised. It was much smaller, darker, and did not have the details as suggested in the photos. We were on the first floor and it was incredibly noisy, especially in the evening/night time. The pub is obviously open until midnight, which I don't have a problem with, however, it was so noisy, you could literally hear word for word of people's conversations until about 1.00am. Meaning we couldn't sleep until the pub had closed it doors. It also meant that when the doors re-opened for breakfast the next morning you could hear tables being dragged around the pub as they prepared. ||The room itself was very clean, however, the water pressure in the bathroom was next to nothing. The shower basically just dribbled water from it. It took a long time to get the shampoo out my hair! The cold tap in the bathroom ran hot, meaning brushing your teeth was done in hot water. ||The TV was behind a cabinet, which was quite cool, however, the right hand door did not stay open and was swinging shut. This meant we had to find something to prop it open with.||We had breakfast included in our stay. The cooked breakfast was fab, however, on the second day, with breakfast starting at 9.00am and us coming down at 9.30am, there was no pastries left, no juice left, no coffee left and no plates left. Which was disappointing. Maybe they had been extremely busy that 30 minutes before, but when we came down there were only 3 other tables with people on. ||Overall, I was very disappointed with our stay here. Somethings can be forgiven, but when they are false advertising, it's a real shame. I would not recommend paying the extra and I definitely won't be staying here again, having travelled 5...
Read moreSecond visit to The Dirty Bottles for Sunday lunch. The place is much larger inside than it appears outside with plenty of tables and comfortable seating. It has definite Harry Potter vibes with the decor and various very nice cocktails on offer. This time we tried a Moaning Mirtle and a Butter Beer (both lovely). Our previous visit we tried their Mocktails and they were good too.
On our first visit my husband, daughter and myself a had Sunday lunch. My husband and daughter had the lamb which they said was lovely and i had the beef which unfortunately was tough. The veg was plentiful and delicious.
On our visit last weekend my husband and daughter decided to try the smoked meat option on the menu. However, they were both a little disappointed as there was only one thin slice of beef on their respective trays. My husband said the sausage was delicious and they had a choice of a couple of side dishes each which were nice, but ultimately there was not a lot of food for the price which was served on what looked like silver trays (maybe a nod to the Hogwarts dining hall). I think the large serving tray made the food portion appear even smaller again.
I had roast beef Sunday lunch. This was the second time i opted for the roast beef and again i found it to be tough. It was disappointing because all other elements of the Sunday lunch are delicious, the freshly cooked veg, gravy and presentation with great attentive service from the staff, plus it has a lovely ambience. My daughter and i decided to share a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and that was yummy too.
We will definitely go back to The Dirty Bottles because we really like it, but it does need just a couple of fine tweaks thrown into 'the sorting hat' as mentioned above to award it 'the...
Read moreWe decided on the venue due to the appearance from the windows to the inside . We asked for a table and room was made for us as a family of 5 and tables were pushed together. Very nice service from the front of house staff . The menu was a little all over the place to be honest. Skin on fries are a no no for me . But anyhow we ordered some food and made a go of it , as we were seated in front of the kitchen I could see food preparation etc , what I do not expect to see is a nearly middle aged chef who appeared look still half cut , trying it on with a young member of staff . Fair play to the waitress who very well pointed out to him that she was only 16 . The food was in the whole shocking, the fries that came were soggy and the onion rings well under cooked, my wife had halloumi kebab and it was not cooked well , the hot dogs were poor and my youngest son had a very anemic looking portion of chicken nuggets. I had the chilli , the chunky chips were great but the rest was well below a chain pub meal . The 3 stars goes to the front of house and waiter service , the food was poor to be kind ! Having seen people turned away for an hour or so for a table I can not get my head round our poor food , perhaps if the staff in the kitchen had more interest in excelling in the job they are paid to do over the night out after work it could be a very nice...
