As per 3 star rating it was OK.

We had high expectations on the venue given several 5 star reviews (albeit no detailed content in any).

Nicely furnished and fitted-out, and definitely trying to offer something a little classier than the usual pub alternatives in Arundel.

Drinks were noticeably expensive for mainstream wines and beers. Tried the cocktails, one was very good and the other very poor indeed.

It filled up nicely by mid-evening with circa 75% female clientele, and all seemed to enjoy themselves albeit none stayed very long.

Both mens and ladies loo (1 of each) quickly became dirty and totally unattended over the course of our visit which was understandably disappointing and quite unpleasant.

Service was average which given price point really isn't acceptable, very much pub attitude as opposed to high end wine bar.

Dress code is smart casual and no sportswear, which would have been fine if the bar team had also adhered to their own rules.

All in all a nice looking wine bar on the surface but definitely needs a slicker and more polished approach to match its prices.

Would I currently recommend it, at present...

Myself and my friend visited 139 Steps after dining in thier fabulous restaurant- Butlers across the way. What a lovely cocktail bar. The atmosphere was amazing, with lovely lounge chill out tunes. The decor was very classy. We chose to sit at the bar for the evening where we sat talking to the manager - Michael and his lovely team which made the experience very personal. Great cocktails. I would definitely recommend the Coconut Cuba and the Rubarb one (with an egg white) do not let this put you off. Thanks ever so much for a lovely evening. We'll be back - 2 girls at the end...

Visited on Feb 20th .. Having used ' Butlers' ( sadly now closed 😔)on a fairly regular basis we were keen to visit 139 for a post dinner 🍸 to celebrate Natalie's birthday 🥳.. As was always the case at Butlers, we were warmly greeted by Sacha 😊👍.. Stylish, understated decor, which possibly could do with some more 'mood lighting '🤔..but that is a personal opinion. 😊..the margaritas 🍸 hit the spot 🤩.. until...
