The manager working the saturday we came didn't support the bar staff serving yet criticised him and belittled which made for awkward listening amongst my party of guests particularly as he thought it was 'banter'. While it's funny to tell people the foods awful and to go and buy food elsewhere and eat it in your bar the first time, after hearing it 4 times I'm not sure it's a clever sale pitch. We've been here several times before and always find the bar staff and premises fine however on this occasion there were several mistakes on drinks orders and the manager (50+ bald guy) needs to winde his neck in somewhat or "go on walkabout" when staff need his help more often! I've been in hospitality. You don't keep staff belittling them or customers. If there are a queue of people, help out! Don't stand there like a bouncer it's really not helpful. Let's hope this is taken as constructive criticism and we can revert back to fun visits again to the Norfolk Arms when we do...
Read moreUnfortunately this was a terrible experience! I am not one to complain normally, unless really necessary, but two out of the four beers we ordered were overly warm and flat (due to 'mucky glasses' I was told!) Then, as part of our food order, we asked for two steak sandwiches (which were not cheap! - £15+ each) and they were (without any exaggeration) completely inedible, and would have easily re-soled my Brogues (with a 2 year guarantee). When I complained, all I was offered was 'oh, sorry, I'll let the chef know" - and if they did let him know???, he never appeared!!! Then, after a follow up complaint by my daughter's partner, we were offered a measerly free drink...??? ...Sorry, but this whole episode was inexcusable, in that scenario, we should have been offered at least 50% off our bill!! - bad job Norfolk Tap, we will not be back! 😕 ...You really need to...

The food was delicious. I went for the pie of the day, which was chicken and chorizo, beautiful pastry with good filling and sauce inside. Vegetables accompanying the pie and mash were cooked nicely. If I was in the area for longer I definitely would have gone back to try their quiche of the day too.
The Tap also has a great selection if beers.
So overall a great place for a drink with a large outdoor seating area in the back, which led onto a lovely green enclosed seating area (photographed).
The venue can be a bit of a maze, as it's part of the Norfolk Arms Hotel, so there is also a second bar further in from the Tap (the Tap is directly by the street entrance). The toilets were inside the hotel but I think when busy they also have other toilets closer to the beer...
