The Edible Sandwich Co. — Restaurant in Arun

While the ambiance is lovely and the staff are friendly, I have to give the edible sandwich one star because their quality of food is unacceptable. I paid≈£16 for takeaway on two roast beef sandwiches and two side salads that I could have easily done better at home. I have a severe tree nut allergy and a gluten sensitivity so my sandwich had to be made accordingly. The bread came completely untoasted, the portion of beef was stingy, and there was to much horseradish sauce which was over salted. For my friend, I ordered a regular roast beef sandwich with the addition of red onion and white cheddar. The bread came untoasted, stingy portion of beef, too much horseradish sauce, and powdery, unmelted, preshredded cheese. The side salads were basic. Normally, we have a cooked breakfast when we visit Arundel. Today was different as we just wanted a beverage. Walked in and sat at a table, no interaction or acknowledgement from the serving staff. The table was dirty from the previous customer. Then someone came over, but we asked for a few more minutes to make our choice. It was then a long wait while other customers came in and placed their orders. One of the waitresses filled a bowl of water for a dog and took it outside before petting the animal. She returned inside but did not wash her hands before serving others. We were fed up waiting and, after a further 12 minutes, we left. My husband and I booked a trip to Arundel for our wedding anniversary and decided to pop to a cafe after going to Arundel castle. This was the first one that popped up and had good reviews. Lovely location, despite the rubbish weather on the day. I went for the eggs royale , which after asking the staff they mentioned they don’t normally do breakfast in the day as it can get very busy, luckily it wasn’t busy when we went! I also had an iced latte which they kindly gave me a takeaway cup as I couldn’t finish it all. I wish I had some loose change to give a tip as the staff were lovely. From working in a cafe myself I know how stressful it can be but there was a lovely atmosphere in the cafe....
