Harry's Bar — Restaurant in Basildon

I went to Harry's Bar a couple of weeks ago with a friend for dinner and we went for the Tapas, food was okay (definitely not horrible) but pretty average. Me and three friends were also booked for dinner last night as it was the only restaurant we could get a table booked for (eat out to help out has been busy!) We were welcomed in and shown to our table. We'd had a chance to look at the menu and have a catch up, then as we were about to order the waitress decided to come over and ask our age. We were told that as we were all under 25 we had to leave immediately and that we were not allowed to eat in the restaurant (even though I had eaten in there two weeks prior and have not had 4 birthdays in two weeks!) I have no problem with an over 25's policy, of course if that's the restaurant choice that's fine, but we were not told over the phone when booking that this had been introduced, and we were also not ID'd as we walked in. Instead of a manager coming over to apologise for the mistake that had been made and to perhaps let it slide as we'd already been seated, we were instead told to to leave straight away and were also completely ignored by the general manager. I think it's appalling that they would treat customers like this and in such a rude manner. The restaurant was pretty empty and I don't think we were going to ruin anyone's evening being in there But don't worry, they told us that if we 'were with someone that was over 25' then we'd be able to stay and eat, so I guess in future, as a 21 year old, I'll have to take my Mum with me!!...

We hired Harry’s Bar function room for a 60th birthday party on Sunday. The room was great; it had its own bar, toilets and outside seating and the staff, who were very helpful,even moved tables & chairs away so we had a dance floor. We decided against a DJ but did our own playlist & played it through their sound system. We were able to set up at 6.30pm and the party ran from 7.30 -10.30pm. Slow service, no starter after nearly an hour, although they did acknowledge and gave us a free drink. We had been asked to get off the table 2.5 hours after our booking time but didnt have room for a dessert so all ok. Food great, portions maybe a little too large so not too worried about not having dessert, but would understand if others expected to get off in that time might be miffed.
