Fred's Cantonese Restaurant — Restaurant in Bassetlaw

FOOD POISONING BEWARE. Myself and a friend ate at the restaurant on Friday 20th September 2019. Neither of us had eaten all afternoon prior to eating in this restaurant. We shared a starter of roast duck and then also shared a main of chicken in black bean sauce.

That same evening my friend was vomiting all over the place and was unable to get out of bed the following day. I felt unwell on Saturday and could not eat at all. I then started being very ill with S and D on Sunday through to Monday.

I phoned the restaurant and the owner was completely dismissive, telling me that it was something that I ate on Saturday. I made it clear that I had eaten nothing on Saturday !!

I seldom write negative reviews and never do so without speaking to the owner first. This I did, and I was quite frankly fobbed off!

We love Cantonese food but felt very let down down by this restaurant. The food was tasteless and bland. Not a very good welcome either, the elderly man showed us to our table and seemed so miserable without any sense of welcome at all. The bill came to £79 for two of us, but left over 70% of the food as it was so poor. The quality of the chicken was poor and there was practically zero beef in our beef dish. The spicy spare ribs came covered in a thick oily batter without us knowing that they were covered in batter. We paid the full bill despite explaining our disappointment with the meal as the owner did not appear remotely interested in our feedback and despite us leaving so much of the food. I went to have a meal with my fiancé a while ago, the drinks are lovely, the food is impeccable, most of the staff are nice. But we got talking to one particular waitress, quite large and she said she was only 15!? Her name was Ellie or Millie I didn’t quite catch it. We got talking and she told us that her boss takes the tips??? And that if we wanted to tip her we should either sneak it in her pocket or sneak it in her hands!! I was utterly shocked, the fact that the waitresses don’t get their tips is terrible, but saying that to a paying customer and then asking to sneak her money?! What!.
