Decided to try out Idyll for breakfast this week. What an overall disappointment. While the restaurant is pleasant visually the experience was not. When you arrive you have to stand and strain to view a menu high on the wall because if you sit down you can’t see. I ordered toast, mushrooms, bacon, egg and black pudding and coffee. My friend ordered the breakfast bap, orange and coffee. Served by a pleasant enough man That is until he was asked to bring condiments. The food arrived eventually long after coffee was served which had got cold. I asked for some hot water. Then asked for salt and pepper as none on the table. And by the time I asked for some sauce. I got a sharp answer back saying are you sure you don’t want anything further. In other words you’re pushing it mate! All this before I ate anything. And all avoidable if the table had a menu and properly set.
The egg was not properly cooked. Bacon snapped as soon as you went to cut. The black pudding was sliced waver thin also snapped as you went to cut. The sour dough was lovely and the mushrooms were cut so small. The overall feeling was a begrudged meal. My friend had the same experience of the breakfast bap and had to leave half of it. The total cost of breakfast was £33 not cheap for what was served up. I would have mentioned to waiter only it wouldn’t have been well received by this guy. 3 days later I feel annoyed enough to write this review. More focus on customer service and not burnt offerings is needed. I...
Read moreOverall, can do better. Small coffee shop with 2-3 staff on who seemed to be struggling with 6-8 or so tables the place has and incoming “to go” customers.
It’s small and you’re making coffees, putting pre-made buns on plates or in bags and someone in the back is making toast, eggs, mushrooms, etc. it’s not Michelin star complexity so shouldn’t really be slow or making mistakes.
Staff on till were friendly but forgetful as they forgot to bring our scone and the waiter was terrible. They looked miserable, were rude, and seemed annoyed at us when they made a mistake. Never understand how people like this end up working in the service industry when they seem to hate people/ customers who are the reason the place is open.
Coffee was decent and the mushroom toast was fairly nice! Good that there are vegan options and the bustling atmosphere was pretty good. Good potential but needs friendlier/...
Read moreValentines set dinner. Arrived on time at 6 and they immediately brought us a nice drink, followed by some homemade crisps to nibble on whilst others were getting seated/settled. The pacing of the courses coming out was perfect, and there were some really thoughtful and surprising little details throughout. Really loved the concept of having a multi course menu at a set time with everyone eating and finishing up at the same time, it created a lovely atmosphere and the food was terrific. Would absolutely 100% come back for a set menu specifically as it definitely is an experience and a really cute date night but I have visited for the usual menu and it's always been 10/10. Staff and owners are also wonderful and nice to talk to....
