Saturday night chaos! Had been here once before but forgotten how slow service was especially if you are seated right at the end at the window where no one can see you. Staff were run off their feet including the one barman who was frantically trying to make cocktails. We noticed too that the floor was a real hazard when trying to walk across it. I had very low heeled boots on but nearly slipped a couple of times. Had to tip toe across. The restaurant was very noisy which you might expect on a Saturday night but the level of noise was exacerbated by the hard surfaces everywhere. The walls had the same plastic panelling as the floor so noise bounced off all of these. It took a while for us to be able to order drinks so we quickly ordered our meal too. Our mocktails were great but it was another half hour before our starters arrived. Both of these we enjoyed- crab and crayfish on brioche and fishcake with poached egg. It took another 45 minutes for our plates to be cleared and only because I caught our server’s eye. He was so busy and we were not in his sight line. Our booking was for 7.30 and our mains arrived at 9.20! We were both underwhelmed by our mains. I chose the herb crusted sea trout. It was an enormous piece of trout - no crispy skin, no herb crust. It was barely cooked and raw in the middle and lukewarm. It was in a bouillabaisse which was tasty but more like a thin tomato broth with additional pieces of trout in it. A few small pieces of ‘fondant’ potatoes and a few tiny pieces of broccoli and possibly some samphire completed the dish. I knew there was no point in complaining as it would have taken ages for a replacement to arrive and we were hungry. My husband opted for the tuna steak with chimichurri sauce. Again the fish was barely cooked and the salad on the side was tiny. Fries were tasty but only a small portion. Eventually we got to order our desserts. By that time they had run out of posset so we both chose the sticky toffee pudding. It arrived at 10.00 minus dessert spoons. As we sat, and sat, and sat waiting for a different server to bring them we decided to use our teaspoons from our tea and coffee which thankfully had arrived before our desserts! The dessert spoons never arrived! The dessert, however, was delicious. At no point did anyone ask us whether we enjoyed our meal. Maybe they were scared what the answer might be?? One other comment which detracted from the experience and could not be pleasant for waiters trying to clear dirty dishes is that both they and customers going to use the toilets had to exit through the same door of the restaurant at the back of the room. I just want to say thank you, however, to the young guy who served us up until we got our desserts. He did his best under very trying circumstances. The final straw when we left was seeing a woman brazenly vaping very close to the bar and reception. We...

Read moreMy wife and I just spent this lovely evening at this restaurant. Our entire experience was spoilt at the end while walking out by one of the staff members (the bearded guy who was in the front of restaurant/ reception ) who we felt was being racist ( we are Indian origin ). He only took our drinks order. The food and further drinks were served by this other lovely waitress who was great. After our meal we paid (might I add that we ordered £135 worth of food and drinks) and on our way out this rude person asked us, “Did you pay?”. It was in an accusatory tone which left us shocked. This was also inappropriate as this person did not serve us. When we asked him why did he ask us this he replied people walk out without paying a lot which I still don’t think is an excuse for the poor way in which he dealt with this. Whilst we enjoyed the food, we will not be returning nor would we be recommending this restaurant to our...
