Recent: I feel this place is very hit and miss. I ordered a brownie and tea, what I got was a very dry and I mean very dry cake, unsure if it was meant to be switched out, was definitely overcooked and not gooey at all as a brownie should be. It did look it when I saw it through the glass, but unsure whether I was given and old one or something else. The tea was ok, I would recommend Other places over this, as previously mentioned their tea quality has dropped. See pictures for proof of dry brownie. Would I visit again...sadly no, not unless it's in a large group and someone chooses this place.

Previous review: visited again, dined in with a friend, had a burger recommended, looked really good, was basically chicken strips on a bun, it was called pulled burger, slightly disappointed in that, had some desi style nachos, which were actually decent, would order again, would pass on the burger next time as it lacked the punch in flavour that it had in looks, if they can make it punchier it would have a wow factor. My friend who avidly reviews food too, also agreed there was little to no taste. See pictures for recents items.

Older reviews: Loved the cinnamon chai from this place, however gone down a bit in taste when I last had it, it's still good. I always think this place is understaffed but then I see some staff just floating around whilst one does the majority of the work.

Anyway, recently bought some breakfast from here and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Tasted better than I thought it would and even the portion size was decent, any less would be disappointing. If you haven't tried the Halwa & Chana with Puri breakfast. Do try it, sadly you will need an extra Puri as there's only one in the portion, my extra Puri was forgotten, but otherwise good stuff! The Puri however isn't a typical tasting Puri, it's thick, but soft and slightly textured, great tasting and isn't oil heavy. Would I order again? Yes.

EDIT: Ordered from here again but instead of making me aware that an item I have ordered is not available, they proceeded to provide alternative items to that amount which I really didn't like. An extra tea was provided with the order but there were only two people in, so it was a waste of a tea as we already had drinks ordered.

Like some of the other places I order from, please cancel my order and let me know an item is not available, I'll be more impressed with the service that way ans more than happy to place another order, rather than look forward to something that never arrives.

Removed 1 star due to this, but will happily amend if my next...

Came a week ago. Interior is nice, can't complain with that at all. The metal chairs they have are really uncomfortable though, had to swap chairs within 5 minutes of being seated. The service is a bit messy - asked one of waitress' about the Groupon offer and she said " I just take orders, I don't deal with payments" never heard that from waiting staff before???? But she had no information with regards to what the offer was eligible for. Another senior waitress came over and explained the terms of the offer, and then told us to order at the counter. Straight away the first waitress came over to take our order and we said we were told to go up when we're ready and she just said that's fine. When I went up to counter, the waitress there then said orders have to be taken at the table? I told her we were told to come up and she told me to order from the table and she redeemed the offer for us. So just seemed like the staff had no clue. Eventually ordered from the table. Cutlery was a bit dirty, had to wipe it down ourselves with the tissues. Drinks wise the saffron tea had a bad aftertaste, was powdery and dried your mouth out to the point you had to rinse out your mouth. The Kashmiri tea tasted like they didn't rinse the cup properly - genuinely tasted like washing up liquid so left the full cup on the table. Food wise nothing outrageous, would definitely put Tamatanga ahead in terms of quality for the Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala. Portions arent really filling either as well as you can see by the photos, not really proportionate for the price compared to other places especially in alum rock. After the initial interactions with the staff where they came across clueless we didn't bother complaining but it was discussed loud enough for the manager to hear as he was sitting at the table directly behind me. Doesn't help the atmosphere when his friends are coming in being loud, moving the tables so they could eat their chicken/burger and chips from other shops while they were getting free drinks too 🤣 another below average cafe/restaurant prioritising the Instagram and Snapchat aesthetic it...

Visited last night for a small birthday gathering, after a lot of hype from family members that were regulars. Initially the staff worked really, hard got the tables ready for us. There was 14 of us! I was impressed by this. The waitress was very polite and friendly. This is the part that ruined the whole experience. Food came out late. It all came out at separate times. We constantly had to ask for things and were told “it’s coming”. My son had to wait over 45 mins for a burger (they never charged for this and gave it on the house). 3 of us has to wait nearly 55 minutes for our stir fry, which unfortunately was below par and tasted awful. The whole point of going out to eat is so you can enjoy eating together. Unfortunately, by the time everyone’s food came it, it ruined the whole experience. All the food came out 15-20 minutes apart. On top of that, one of the waitresses dropped a heap of cutlery and plate on my son. He didn’t complain or say anything but she just made a face said sorry and offered some tissue and walked off. I watched her face and she had a grin on it as she walked off, not sure why that would be funny. It’s a shame because, on the table you had a Food Journalist, and an Influencer. I for one will never be going again and my family who were regulars won’t be going either. I spoke to the lady behind the till; although she was apologetic it wasn’t good enough because she was still trying to charge for a burger that nobody ate or ordered! Also, to say to customers you have new staff in the Kitchen on a busy Saturday night is inexcusable. I travelled from Kent for this meal which is a 3.5 hour drive and was very disappointed. I come from a family of Caterers and appreciate food, service and atmosphere. I think this is a...

Was in Birmingham for 2 nights and searched for the best Chai in the city and this popped up so decided to go even though it was a little out of the way of where i was staying. Had a tiring day before needing to head back and arrived in Allum Rock to a much smaller, but very nicely decorated, cosy restaurant. I opted to go for the Desi breakfast which i my selections came with a masala omelette, channa, puri and house chai. This breakfast itself was incredible, easily the best desi breakfast i have ever had and puts a well known desi chai chain to shame comparably. The puri was crisp and made super fresh, omlette also really fresh cooked to order & came with green chilli, onions, tomatoes. The channa was also to die for the best i have ever had as well as the house chai which has a creamy cardamom heavy taste which was exactly what i needed and yet again just perfection to my personal taste. Had a small chat with the owner before i left and he is a really nice guy as well as the other staff, my suggestion is if your in Allum Rock forget all the well known Desi chain places and come here as you wont be dissapointed one bit. Next time im in Birmingham i want to go again multiple times to try more of the menu and finally taste that declious breakfast again. Top marks from me.
