We came as family and Friends to the church tavern as had just been to a baptism so was to celebrate on the 3rd December 2017 in afternoon. We do come from time to time and have never seen such bad service and rude staff in 11 years of coming. First off a rather child and parent unfriendly member of staff snaps your head off the moment she sees you. We had a 9 year old with us who was over their height restriction (we go to many ball Pitts etc this is only one know of that has height restriction) many are age restricted, well this woman went hell for leather in making sure this child wasn't going in to which being 9 you can imagine how upset he was and the way was treated like a criminal. Well then I turn up with my kids she's like straight away they can't go in now understandably ones 15, other 13 they obviously can't, but my other 3 can I know. Bearing in mind my kids are mixed race - she later in a conversation called them Asians so she truly needs to get her facts right, you really can't miss this member of staff she has a face like a trod on chip and barks at you. She told a family member that she couldn't serve them drinks at that moment in time as she needed to observe that when I came in with my kids we were going to pay - I've always payed my way in this place. The place wasn't packed either so really couldn't understand what her problem was. Now usually we pay for another hour but we all thought best to sit and wait for food in dining area instead. Now when it came to food ordering standing in a long que etc being told food going to take 45 mins not a problem you expect these things we were a group of 33 after all, plus obviously other people there too. Staff behind bar friendly, few hiccups with food order when came to kids puddings. We ordered a kids pudding that didn't come out but other types of kids puddings did, this still hadn't came out so when questioned the lady who was mixed race she argued and was quite agressive in her tone that we had his pudding it had come out ages ago, my son sat and waited for a long time it hadn't and she basically stood there calling me a liar. It got resolved but this day of celebration was ruined...
Read moreUPDATE: After my experience there I was quite upset and annoyed. However I have since been in contact with the manager Stephen, who I have to say was very apologetic and assured me that he was looking into the matter. Unfortunately it was just human error and have now put in measures to prevent it happening again. I now feel I over reacted at the time and am now happy to try there again. I have now changed the 1 star to 3 because of the incident otherwise it of been a 4 or 5 star. Updated 5/3/19.
I went there tonight Sunday 17th Feb 19 with my other half to have dinner. I am a vegetarian. We ordered a starter and main, I ordered the salt and pepper battered mushrooms for my starter and vegetarian sausage and mash for my main. The starters came out and I was enjoying mine when I bit into one and it was a chicken nugget!! I took it to the bar and told the woman i was a vegetarian, who said oh im sorry do you want another plate of them? err no I don't want another plate of them I don't think I'll ever eat them again!! She then said she'd speak to the staff. Then to add insult to injury when my main came out I said to the waitress they definitely are vegetarian sausages aren't they? And her flippant reply was yes they definitely are you won't get another surprise chicken nugget in there! Needless to say i didnt enjoy my main either. At the time i just thought mistakes happen but the more I thought about it, the more annoyed I got. I did say to my husband if they can make that mistake what mistakes are they making with allergens? They could end up killing someone. Also they must cook vegetarian products and meat products in the same cooking oil else the mistake couldn't of happened which means I've eaten meat products. So if your a vegetarian avoid the place!! Or you won't be any longer! I will be calling tomorrow and speak to the manager and complain! Im very...
Read moreWalked in and the manager! The large on with scruffy hair had the tray of cultery that either needed to go into the wash or had come out of the wash on the bar...not really what I want to see when walking into the pub. Then had to wait ages for someone to come on the bar to take my drinks order...again the large manager who obviously hates her job but also forgot that it's all about customer service. The bar was filled with empty glasses so I thought oh she's obviously stressed out because it's busy...I looked around and it was dead. I then went into the kids play area and the girl behind the bar there took mine and my boyfriend's drinks and poured them into plastic cups. She poured mine into a dirty cup which ended with my coke having white bits floating around, I told her and she took it and swapped it ...no sorry nothing . I had already drank some of these white bits!!! She then brought my drink back and asked if I wanted a straw so I didn't have to put my lips on the cup. That just made me realised how dirty they must be. The girl had attitude and I think she had some kind of argument with other customers because she was storming around. Then another manager came in and took over her position at the bar. He just looked miserable and out of place. The whole place was a mess and he was just stood there. I took my 3 year old sister into the toliets...the smell of urine is so strong in there it's like the porter Loos you get at a festival they was fiflth and had no toliet roll.
Over all the place is full of miserable staff who enjoy using dirty toliet. There was one girl who was lovely she had blonde hair and wore glasses? No idea her name.
Such a shame of the place because I used to enjoy going there but...
