I visit the O'Neills in Harborne fairly regularly since it's refresh from the Sizzling, it looks and feels fresh and great atmosphere. So time for a review!
Drinks - Wide selection at the bar to pick from, always served cold and fresh. Bonus having happy hour during the week 5pm - 8pm too. Plenty of offers in the app to pick from, with no issues using them at the bar. Table ordering in the app can be a little glitchy though, so best used at the bar if can.
Food - Didn't order food on this visit, but have done many times previously so commenting on those visits. Food always served piping hot, fresh and with plenty to pick from. Very occasionally the odd item isn't available - but plenty else there. Highly recommend the lunch & drink menu where can get a meal and drink for around £6.75 / £7.75 if a pint. Top choices typically are the southern fried chicken flatbread and the fish and chips for me!
Atmosphere - Clean, fresh and welcoming. Music during the day at a comfortable level to be able to work, lots of plug sockets available all round the place to charge phone / laptop etc. Toilets always well kept and looked after. Weekend evenings, the live entertainment is well worth checking out too. Added bonus is the awesome garden - plenty of space, with shelters and covered areas to stay out during the more "British weather".
WiFi - Works perfectly - according to Speedtest get 48.1Mbps download / 12.7 Mbps upload on laptop. No issues at all with using a somewhere to catch up with work.
Parking - Wasn't going to comment on this as don't drive to the pub - Google reviews suggestion of parking topic have come back to add it.. There is lots behind the place, free to use for customers - but be sure to register number plate on the tablet at the bar.
Staff - Always happy and welcoming with no exceptions. Quick to sort anything need with a smile! Can't fault at all, and go above and beyond every time. On the later visits, the door staff are also notably friendly, fair and professional to keep the venue safe and fun.
Overall... 10/10 (+ more). Keep it up,...
Read moreFirst, when I arrived (as a solo diner) the only small table available still had dirty crocks on it. But I sat there anyway, and since no one came to clean the table, I had to move the crocks to an empty larger table (which also had dirty crockery on it). So I ended up eating off a table which was never cleaned after the last people leaving and me arriving). My starter (Hot Mess), had ingredients missing. I tucked into it thinking maybe they were at the bottom of the dish, but no, the red hot sauce, jalapenos and spring onions were not there. So I ate it (and what I ate was tasty) but I did feel a little 'short changed'. Then when my main course arrived (rack of ribs coated in bbq sauce and chilli heatwave Doritos crumb), the bbq gravy and coleslaw were missing. And the lady bringing out the meals rushed off quickly back into the kitchen and never reappeared for ages, so I ended up making my self known to the bar staff that there were items missing on my meal. I was then told they would be brought out to me, but it was still about another 10 - 15 mins before the missing items were brought to me. She did apologise for the missing food items though. And then when I had finished, a visit to the Gents was an experience, as neither toilet cubicle door locked, as they were both broken. The only other thing to point out is that the staff were happily letting kids run into the kitchen area. I get that it was probably children that they knew, but still, surely this is a health and safety issue allowing members of the public into the kitchen area (especially children)? Usually, it's been alright at The Vine, and it's easy for me to get to there, but based on this experience, I think next time I might try The Amber Tavern or The Court Oak and see if I have any better luck there. I do hope the pub takes on board my points. I'm not trying to sound nasty or anything, as, generally speaking, it's a nice pub and the staff are friendly. I just feel that I need to say it as I found...
Read moreI live in Harborne and have been to O’Neills a few times for food which is great food. The bar staff are normally polite and helpful. My Son and I went up just after 6 for dinner. We asked the girl working behind the bar what time they finished serving food at? She replied “10pm or maybe 9”.We’d made it clear we were there for dinner. So we ordered a drink and sat down. After ordering our second drink around 7.40pm we looked at the menu and went up to order our meals, we were waiting 15+ minutes before any staff turned up (even after us and another customer asking for assistance)! The same young lady appeared and we began ordering our food, to which she said “sorry the kitchen is closed” To say we were fuming isn’t the right word!!! She’d obviously knew we were there for food and knew the kitchen had closed but didn’t have the common sense or decency to tell us. I was especially exhausted after only getting back from holiday the day beforehand. The girl did apologise but it was obvious she didn’t have much common sense and had been left on the bar by herself and I think this may have been her first time working in a bar. There were no managers around at all, or any other staff to be seen inside the pub. We ended up having to walk in the freezing rain to get a takeaway which we could’ve done in the first place!! Maybe a big shake up of staff or better training is needed? As I’ve said some staff are really nice, but a few are ignorant, rude and obviously don’t want to be there. Absolutely disgusted, I’ll be keeping an eye out, hopefully something is done to make customers feel less like they are an inconvenience and more like the customer’s who pay good money to keep the pub open and are given the service we deserve and is advertised on the...
