Today I was very hungry and I was on my way to get a new sound system for my car. I was surprised to see a lovely looking burger shop called phat buns The burgers in the window really grabbed my eye So I parked up quickly, and being disabled, with a walking stick, it was easy for me to get in the restaurant The look of the restaurant was absolutely beautiful I love the bright orange Decor it reminded me so much of good Cheddar cheese I could see the quality, so I expected it to be reasonable. I was greeted by a lovely lady who seemed very caring and was happy to suggest having something grilled which just wetted my appetite
So I ordered a double burger with cheese. My first question was how come it’s so expensive for a burger.? I didn’t let her answer the question Because I’m a chef, and I’ve been a chef for more than 20 years
For one burger, the most expensive part of the burger would be the beef which was two patties They were cooked beautifully, but again, small They probably weighed up around 120g to 150g Per party which should only cost around £2/3 It was served on a normal bun with sesame seeds which is one of the main allergens I would’ve preferred, a plain, brioche bun or a brioche potato bun
The bun was also small And the salad had wilted dramatically within 10 minutes of being wrapped i’m just not a fan of soggy lettuce I would suggest as a former professional chef to keep your chirley endives in ice cold water before serving. The wilted salad just went brown A nice fat tomato and the cheese was melted all over the burger. It tasted really good. But I had to remove the lettuce I also had skin on fries which was still very hot 10 minutes after I had parked up I had a strawberry drink which was similar to strawberry, Miranda which went down a treat
I will come back, but we’re friends and sit down and eat
So my review i’m giving three stars because you’re overpriced your Burger cost £9.50 And I had a meal which cost an extra £2
I would’ve been happy to pay £8 for the meal
For me, there’s not much special difference between a Smashburger and a normal beef burger unless you’re justifying wages Which shouldn’t be the case But Overall, the service was outstanding I had my food within 9mins I will be back with my friends and family and will give a second review. Best time to eat would be the school run. I couldn’t imagine how busy this place would be on a Friday night and wouldn’t wanna know how long my food would be taken, but they seem very organised and sharp like I said I...
Read moreA MASSIVE shoutout to Veena at Phat Buns Lozells – this review is long overdue, and trust me, it’s worth the read.
From the moment I stepped into Phat Buns Lozells, I knew I was in for a treat — and not just because of the food. Veena was the first person to greet us, and instantly, the vibe changed. She’s got this incredible mix of warmth, energy, and professionalism that makes you feel welcome and valued from the second you walk in.
Service: Top tier. Veena doesn’t just take your order — she owns the whole experience. She takes the time to explain the menu, recommend items based on your taste, and she does it all with a genuine smile and a calm, confident manner. You can tell she knows the menu inside out, and her suggestions? Spot on every single time. I’ve been back multiple times and she somehow remembers my order — which blows my mind.
Atmosphere: The whole Lozells branch has a good vibe, but when Veena is around, the energy just hits different. She brings this kind of positive, upbeat energy that lifts the whole room. You see it not just in how she deals with customers, but how she communicates with the team too — she keeps everything flowing, calm under pressure, and always in control. It’s rare to see someone balance friendliness with efficiency so effortlessly.
Food: Look, the food at Phat Buns is already banging — juicy burgers, loaded fries, creative sauces, and those sweet options that finish the meal off perfectly. But with someone like Veena running the front, the whole experience feels elevated. It’s more than just grabbing a bite — it’s an actual vibe.
Cleanliness & Organisation: Veena clearly takes pride in the store. The place is always spotless, everything runs on time, and even when it gets busy (and I mean Lozells on a Friday night kind of busy), she doesn’t miss a beat. Orders come out correct, no fuss, no confusion, no chaos — just smooth, well-run service with a smile.
Final Words: People like Veena are rare. She goes above and beyond in a way that isn’t forced or fake — it’s just who she is. You can tell she genuinely cares about customers, about doing things right, and about creating an experience that people remember. Phat Buns is lucky to have her, and if there’s any justice in the world, she deserves ALL the recognition.
To whoever’s in charge: Give Veena a raise, a bonus, a trophy — something! She’s an...
