Like others, I’ve always passed this place, checked their reviews and decided to give it a go. This is a CASH ONLY restaurant. I went with a family member who came from another city and it was embarrassing. There were several things that went wrong but for starters the service was awful and at one point, I honestly considered walking out and finding somewhere else. We walked in, the man behind the counter needs some serious training on basic customer service skills, e.g. saying hello, smiling when customers enter and taking them to be seated? He didn’t tell us how to order or where to sit so we just took a seat and then he told us we can’t sit there in case a larger group came which was very ambitious, seeing as the restaurant was dead quiet at 10pm on a Friday but that’s okay we sat elsewhere.
We waited ages before someone turned up to take our order and then we waited ages for the food to come. We ordered the mixed grill which I enjoyed but were told they didn’t have the sheesh kebabs (which was the best bit) but instead they gave us lamb chops which I was happy with. Their portion of chips was very small for a platter of 2 people.. We ordered a pina colada but they didn’t have it so we settled for a strawberry mojito. The mojitos were nice but the fizz was just a bit too much, it kinda hurt my insides. We also ordered a sirloin steak with vegetables which were bland as hell, I may as well have gone and bought a packet of veg from the supermarket and thrown it on the boil. The steak was nice but I asked for medium and it was well done. Lastly, as a recommendation my friend ordered 3 prawns for £6 which we thought would be jazzed up and nice but ended up being a rip off. They came out not even looking like prawns and they were not nice, we had to leave them.
When we were eating, I think it was the owner or someone who worked there, they were talking politics so loud and because it was dead quiet, this is all we could hear in the middle of our meal. I was really looking forward to coming here and I don’t like leaving bad reviews but it was just a very awkward experience and in all honesty, I doubt I’ll ever be visiting Grillz in Handsworth again. Based on other reviews, their service is probably better in the day time when they’re not trying to rush to close. 1pm or 10pm, there is no excuse for poor...
Read moreWe visited this place using a Groupon voucher as we recently moved house nearby and wanted to try it out.
Firstly parking: Found a spot on the side street straight away and because it was at the beginning of the week, it wasn't busy at all which helped.
We were kindly greeted and seated straight away and let us know which items were not included in the Groupon deal which is great as we didn't have to play the guessing game. The staff there were really friendly throughout dinner.
Restaurant itself is clean, the starters were really nice; sheesh kebab and the chicken wings were really juicy. We ordered sirloin steaks and chips; the steak was cooked to perfection, we both requested medium and it delivered on flavour. The sides were a good portion. We ordered two mocktails which were divine and would really recommend the strawberry mojito! Dessert was nice too, huge slab of concrete cake which was so tasty and warm custard.
On that particular day, there did appear to be quite a few things unavailable. I can't complain about the alternatives because we did really enjoy our meal overall but sometimes it's a shame when you have something in mind but have to order something else.
Nonetheless, it was a great dinner. Our food was cooked perfectly, the flavours were there and their portions are very generous.
We will definitely be coming back....or ordering in on...
Read moreI Visited on Friday, 13th September 2024, just before 7 pm with my wife. Unfortunately, our experience with the service left much to be desired. Upon entering, we were told to be seated upstairs, which was fine as the waiter was attending to other customers. However, after being seated, we waited for menus for quite some time. After 10 minutes had passed, I had to go downstairs to ask for them, as the waiter seemed to have forgotten.
When placing my order, I initially intended to have a fillet steak, as I had seen it on their website beforehand. However, when I inquired about it, the waiter simply responded with an abrupt “no,” without any explanation. I found this response lacking in customer service, as typically, one would expect an apology or an explanation as to why it was no longer available.
That said, the food itself was very enjoyable. I ordered a T-bone steak, cooked medium rare, with rice, and my wife had the chicken pasta. Both dishes were delicious, and we were very pleased with the quality of the meals.
When it came to paying, the bill came to around £37, and I provided two £20 notes. The change, however, was given in 20p, 10p, and 5p coins, which I found quite odd. It would have been more acceptable had there been an explanation, such as a shortage of pound coins in the till.
The food was excellent, the service however could certainly...
