Having lived in the area for 20+ years the horse and jockey been a regular and we visited probably weekly. It is now literally at the end of our road.
3 weeks ago we went and ordered a childrens sunday roast we had ordered many times before. It came out with no root vegetables and a yorkshire pudding cut in half. We complained and were told this is the "spec". I pointed out to the waitress the menu clearly stated it came with yorkshire pudding and root vegetables. At this point we were then served with a yorkshire pudding and root vegetables but were told in no uncertain terms if we came again the childrens roast would only come with half a yorkshire pudding.
I therefore asked to speak to the manager. He confirmed this was the case, I have no idea who thinks it is acceptable to serve a yorkshire pudding cut in half when the menu clearly states the meal comes with a yorkshire pudding but he insisted.
At this point we left and went home. I tired to send a complaint to Ember Inns, however this was just directed to the same manager so got an abrupt response saying he had explained this was the "spec".
At this stage I just decided to ignore it and never go to the horse and jockey again while the current manager is still there.
That was till today when I walked past on an early morning walk at about 8am. There was a broken peroni glass on the pavement with large shards of glass dangerously pointing up. I continued my walk and returned home a different way. We then went out with the children and were again passing the horse and jockey at about 2:30pm the glass was still left dangerously lying in the middle of the pavement. I therefore went in and informed the manager but he had no clue it was there, where he should be clearly checking the outside areas.
I will not be going back while the current manager is working there and believe he is not performing his duties properly hence having to write this review as there is no way to contact Ember Inns to lodge a formal complaint.
Wow, no way for me to post a response other than editing my post. Dealing with the arrogance of the manager is astounding. If he thinks going in and having to tell him there has been a broken glass on the pavement for about 6+ hours is aggressive, there is a difference between annoyance and aggression, he needs to consider if someone had fallen on it and cut their hand or stepped on it and seriously there foot, I went in told them and left, I had to say excuse me as him and the bar man seem too busy talking to notice a customer walked up to the bar. I pointed out he might not care about his customers opinion but he needed to care about the area around his pub. If he thinks broken glasses from the pub isn't his responsibility, really??? It was right outside the main entrance. All I would like is to be able to contact someone at ember inns someone who isn't the manager. Is there a proper...
Read moreWe went as a group of 12 to celebrate a family birthday. It was a Saturday evening so very busy as you would expect. The manager Jason was rude from start to finish. On arrival we ordered a round of drinks at the bar and Jason was extremely impatient- we ordered 12 drinks and he kept asking in very rude manner âany thing else?â Followed by a huff! We said we had a table booked, he checked and the previous party weâre finishing do soar it would be about 5 mins. Jason gave no instructions to say he would come and find us. So We stood any waited near the table and as they left we took a seat - the table was marked with our name so we knew it was ours. A lovely waitress came and cleared the glasses, Jason then came over and said âoh youâre already sitting down, unbelievable!â And have us a filthy look.
We were given no instructions as how to order food. I went to the bar and asked Jason if someone would take our order or if we ordered at the bar? He said order at the bar, then I noticed the QR code on the table and asked if we could order from the table. He said âYes but itâs very busy so thereâs a wait!â - sorry to be an inconvenience Jason and wanting to order food for the 12 people we had pre booked a table for! Just before 9pm my son (13) wanted another drink, as he was the only one, I asked my older nephew (26) to go to the bar to get him a J20 as i knew my son would not be served. Not realising my son had followed my nephew, a few minutes later he returned with the j20 stating we had to leave at 9pm (in 5 mins) as kids werenât allowed in and the manager (Jason) said itâs non negotiable. Jason was again was extremely rude to my nephew and my son. Some of our party were still eating. No where did it say that children had to leave by 9pm when we booked - it actually asked what time we required the table too and I selected 10pm. There were 5 children in our party, all of which were very well behaved. If there was a problem, Jason could have mentioned it on arrival. Or equally he could have popped over when he seen him at the bar and asked if we could make sure he stayed at the table - no problem at all. But to say we had to leave at 9pm and itâs none negotiable simply because my 13 year old accompanied a 26 year old to the bar to buy a J20 is ridiculous!
The waitress who served us was lovely, I actually felt sorry for her. It was clear she was embarrassed by Jasonâs behaviour. I dread to think how he treats his staff.
Food was ok, what you would expect - cheap and Cheerful. Came out surprisingly quick despite Jasonâs comments. The waitress was lovely and very helpful.
However I suggest Jason rethinks his career choice as clearly working with people and the public seems a little too...
Read moreI booked a table for 10 for lunch. Less than half the group ended up ordering food due to the rudeness of one member of the bar team. This member of the team was clearly in a very unpleasant mood.
"We don't do that!" she barked at me when I tried to order my food. I wasn't going to stand there and argue that it was right there on the menu so I just walked away from her without ordering as did most of my party.
Of the 4 who ordered 3 said their food was great apart from one who had ordered shepherds pie and was served lasagne instead. She didn't send it back because the only person we could see at the bar at this point was the unpleasant woman and she had already waited over an hour for her food.
After the food was finished, a member of my party asked the same woman who was in the restaurant area if she would mind taking a photo of our group when she had a moment and was told (again, incredibly rudely) that she was busy serving another table. She was asked if she could please do it when she was finished but she didn't return. Another member of the team was only too happy to spend the10 seconds it took doing this for us.
There was no toilet paper whatsoever in the ladies restrooms - not a single sheet. We arrived about 10 minutes before our 1pm booking and 3 hours later there still wasn't any despite my party all having been to the bar to request some and numerous other people we heard telling staff that the dispensers were empty. Definitely not an IBD friendly establishment.
I would have scored this experience at 0 but for the other 2 members on the bar team. They were great but that didn't make up for the...
